I am a model builder with over 50 years of experience, retired from the U.S. Army and Army National Guard and still employed by the State of Maryland, but looking forward to retirement from that. I’m also an avid historian originally with a total interest in World War II but I have found out that history is not a static subject and one thing enviably leads to another. So I have found myself wandering through WWI, the Napoleonic Wars Roman history and of course living in Gettysburg the Civil War. I war game collect well,, err,,, my wife says “WAY TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING!”
My primary interest in modeling is often rather eclectic but I favor WWII Aircraft, WWI ships and Artillery of all ages. I’m also fascinated in the period called the “Age of the Ironclads” which is to me that time between the late 1850’s and 1912 or between the La Gloire the construction of “HMS Dreadnaught”. I’m sure that some would quibble that many of the pre-dreadnaughts were not truly Ironclads but as Voltaire says “History is but a myth agreed upon.” So I agree that they are, and are fascinating ships. J I love my hobbies but know enough to not take them too seriously and that no matter how much you know, or think you know, there is always more to learn.
