Japanese GB 2011-2012
Posted by Gamera on Thursday, August 11, 2011 8:53 AM

* Start date Sept 2011

* Run time till December 31, 2012

* Japanese subjects (which I'll define as fighting under Japanese colours- aka a captured P-40 with Japanese markings and flown by a Japanese pilot would be considered 'Japanese')

* Cross-overs welcome

* Pre-started kits fine as long as they're under 50% completed (assembled but not painted)

* Must have patience with the moderator since this is the first time I've done anything like this and have no Censored clue what I'm doing...

* I am leaning toward Second World War aircraft only since almost all the interest has been toward this. If anyone wants to do anything else please throw it out for discussion.

Put me down for a a Zero and a Dinah, both are less than 50% assembled and stalled due to time and weather constraints (hard to paint when the compressor is under water!!).

Both older Tamiya 1/48 kits.

Does this run all thru 2012? If so, then perhaps when I finish my GB, I'll try to brave building a plane. Still can't finish the Zero.

****Sorry, I just reread the time-frame. Dunce I doubt I will have any time to start something by then. I will probably be knee-deep in my own GB.

Thanks guys, roster updated. Those that haven't decided on a kit - still plenty of time to think about it.

Kevin: By all means you're welcome to build as many as you please. I'd like to have some special badges to recognize those who do finish multiple models.

Tigerman & Bsyamato: I'd certainly be game for a three-month extension (taking the build up to nine months) or maybe two (taking it up to a year) if by Feb several people haven't finished or there is popular demand for an extension. If you do want to start and can't make the deadline no big deal, we're all friends here and I see no reason to be a martinet about strict implentation of rules.

Nope, no one is going to ask you to commit seppuku if you don't finish on time Wink

Well, we'll play it out and see what happens.

I have many options, since the majority of my stash is Japanese A/C. I have a Tojo, Nick, Val, Tony, and a Jack. A full house! LOL I would probably opt for the Nick or Tojo, because I want to get my feet wet and save my others for more experience.

Big-Z: Ok, you're in!

Bsyamoto: Sounds good, if you should change your mind, no big deal.

Eric: No worries, I didn't put you down on the roster but feel free to jump in anytime.

Put myself down with a 1/48th FineMolds 'Judy'

BTW: My computer has been acting wonky so I'm not sure I'll be on-line over the weekend. If not I'll be back here on the office computer Monday morning.

Hi Cliff ;

I would like to join in with Academy's 1/72 A6M5c Zero (Type 52c) ...

Academy's instruction only list the paint color's as IJN Green and Light Gray .

My Gunze Sangyo acrylic paint chart has IJN and IJA Greens as well as IJN and IJA Grays ; The IJA Green and Gray are slightly lighter than the IJN colors , which would you think would be more appropriate ?

Anyway , it will be an OOB build , my first WWII fighter !

Go with the IJN colors...the Zero was an IJN A/C.

Invertman & Helo: Got both of you down and welcome to the GB!

Helo: Hercmech's got it. There was a slight different between Army and Navy green and grey and yeah the Zero was navy so go with those.

In all the Japanese monster movies I've seen (watched many) Gamera was close to invincible. I don't think he ever lost or died. Even Godzilla died in one.
