I know Sports Illustrated offers free team logo items to subscribers. Has FSM thought about offering free FSM T-shirts to subscribers?

Good question!

I know when some forum members plan to meet up at an event, they'll add something to their name tag to help identify themselves. Most office-supply stores sell sheets of brightly colored self-adhesive dots, for example.

FSM has never offered T shirts or hats, and I know our parent company has had mixed results selling these kinds of things through our other magazines. But I'll make sure to bring the idea up at our next marketing meeting.

Went to the Reading WWII reenactment weekend yesterday. Realized that a "T" shirt or cap would have to be some sort of hi-visibility color. Was looking for another forum member who was to be wearing a green ball cap. Well, lots of guys with green ball caps gave me dirty looks as I got close and stared at the cap to read what was on it. There were C.A.P. members there wearing international orange caps with numbers on them. You could spot them at least a football field away.

Decals and bumper stickers should be relatively cheap but my first choice is the "T" shirt (more surface area to show).

I remember from some years ago, AMT often put scale bumper stickers on the decal sheet that read " I Love Model Cars" ,with love being represnted by a red heart.

I know that sounds a bit corny, but along the line of what I'm thinking of.  Maybe a line of shirts, hats and stickers.

There could be funny sayings such as "When I have an itch, I scratch it." for the scratchbuilders, or My Air Force sits on a shelf" for aircraft buffs. Just a couple examples of the possibilities. Fun idea when you think about it.

As far as an FSM window decal goes ,I like the thought of the magazine cover title to include the "essential magazine" line under the title.

I love the idea of FSM T-shirts,hats, etc. Not just to wear at shows , but even for everyday. The wife and I just bought a couple new cars and I thought it would be great if there were some window decal or some thing to show support for our hobby. I'm proud of what we do, and FSM is a big part of of it.

Does the bobble head glow in the dark?

If so, I'll order one -- or a whole case!

Hehe, I was thinking it would be cheaper too ^^  But, a t-shirt would be much easier to spot across the vender room... that is, if we were looking at anything but the tables. ;)

Hey fox, I like your idea!

If a t-shirt is out of the question, how about a downloadable id badge that we could attach to a nametag or hang on a lanyard?

Hi Jim,

Thanks for sharing the idea. In the past, we've considered creating shirts/hats/mugs/etc. for contributors. So, when we discuss this topic again, we'll definitely keep in mind Forum members as well.

All the best,

Kelly, FSM

Question for FSM Staff
Posted by fox on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 10:52 PM

First let me say that I am a subscriber to FSM and LOVE the magazine. Please keep up the great work.

A lot of readers and subscribers go to the Model Shows, Air Shows, Museums etc. The guys on the forums ask each other if they are going to a certain show and what day they will be there in the hopes of meeting each other there. Sometimes they meet, and sometimes they don't.

My question is this. Wouldn't an FSM "T" shirt with your logo and a pic of a plane(for those in the aircraft forums), tank(for those in armour), etc. be good for advertising, help the guys spot each other at shows, and spread the word at club meetings? A baseball cap would help too.

Just an idea.
