New Category suggestion
Posted by jimz66 on Saturday, January 24, 2004 6:56 PM
This is to members and administrators.

I would like to propose a new category for the forum.

The new category would be a historical one that we could discuss items of interest
that could cover mulitple sections of modeling. For example like if one wanted to discuss the items used in a specific battle. like say D-Day, where ships, tanks, planes and other items were used. Something where we could bring it all togother.

Just a thought. I hope all is well with all of you. Take care. Thanks for reading my suggestion. BLOCKED SCRIPTinsertsmilie('Cool [8D]')

I would call it the Historical Column. I see that 35 of you read this but only two responded. I would like to hear from more of you. FSM Stafff if you could respond as well I would appreciate it thanks.

Hmmm... might be a bit dangerous, though. people may be tempted into arguing unresolvable subjects likewhich fighter won the war, or if Rommel was a genius, or if the chicken came before the egg, etc... aside from that, it's a good idea. This way, modelers can better get in touch with those doing similar projects. But that's just me. Smile [:)]

Thumbs Up [tup]Sounds good to me!

This would be helpful to those doing dioramas using multiple vehicles, A/C, amphibs, small boats, troops, etc. and in determining terrain, bunker and other features for a specific location (eg: helicopter, small arms, riverine craft, troops in the Mekong Delta or a similar WWII. or Somalia or more recent action).

Good idea.

However, I see shrikes concern, but really, no matter what you do when it comes to research and fact finding ya gotta validate/confirm your resources. Otherwise you constantly run the risk of dealing with mis-information. Typical Business Intelligence / Knowledge Management risk. There are some fairly simple cookie cutter legal language blurbs and disclaimers FSM could use to protect themselves and inform users, that essentially say, use at own risk.

I worked with Intelectual Property Lawyers for a little while on one of my work projects last year, can ya tell? Big Smile [:D]

Interesting idea....a sort of "cross-topic" topic. We'll give it some thought.

Excellent idea. You might consider just calling it " Sound Off!" or something catchy like "Roll Call". Can't use "Mail Call", Lee Ermy might get a little sideways on us.

Great idea. I would most likely spend more of my time in here than in any other. I love to build historical things like that. I think it would be a great idea. Big Smile [:D]

If resources are a crucial point toward establishing historical accuracy during discussions, why not call the forum "The Library" or "Research Room"? History could be discussed in light of available resources. In addition, resources could be cited, and maybe even new and even old books reviewed. It might also be a place to include a collection or central repository (a sticky maybe?) of good historical web links suitable to modelers. Just a thought....

If nothing else it might narrow down the search for a history related post if you perfer to browse rather then use an engine.

Good idea. I like the open idea concept; any topic as long as it is historical in nature pertaining to modeling.

Why would they? It's just a suggestion. As far as FSM is concerned, you are also a customer. So your suggestion is important. Smile [:)]

would be a good idea. the only problem i see is it might lend itself more toward the military aspect and others such as auto and scifi builders might be "left out". civilian and futuristic aspects of modeling dont neccesarily rely on the historical research that those of us who model military subjects do. i wouldnt want to alienate a group of people by losing them in the cracks.

Even if the subject focused on researching things pertaining to modeling, like paint schemes, etc...I'd be for it...sort of an 'Online Archive'.

For example...'Anyone got a photo of a JG2 Fw-190A-5 from 1944?' or 'What color scheme was the USS Indianapolis in at the time of her loss?'

Answer: Yes, I have photos, and Indy was wearing Measure 22...but you get my point.
