yeah I see your point David. Maybe it would be a good idea to change the describtion for the reference forum. I know when we had the discusion about the reference forum, one of the things we wanted was a place to share historical information.

Why not. Historical events IS reference. I think it would fit nicely in the reference. But maybe im wrong.

erhm. Like I said above! We already got it. The reference forum.
The reference forum was started a couple of months ago to answer the need for a forum for this kind of talk.

Go and have a look at it. http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=28

As a former academic with a master's in history, I would love to see a historical
category added to the forum. To me, these are the most interesting of all the threads posted in the forum, & I wish I saw more of them here--the more contentious the better!

Excellent idea....I've got a giant stack of WWII mags that are very interesting to me and I would enjoy talking to other modelers about historical subjects.

Even if the subject focused on researching things pertaining to modeling, like paint schemes, etc...I'd be for it...sort of an 'Online Archive'.

For example...'Anyone got a photo of a JG2 Fw-190A-5 from 1944?' or 'What color scheme was the USS Indianapolis in at the time of her loss?'

Answer: Yes, I have photos, and Indy was wearing Measure 22...but you get my point.

would be a good idea. the only problem i see is it might lend itself more toward the military aspect and others such as auto and scifi builders might be "left out". civilian and futuristic aspects of modeling dont neccesarily rely on the historical research that those of us who model military subjects do. i wouldnt want to alienate a group of people by losing them in the cracks.

Why would they? It's just a suggestion. As far as FSM is concerned, you are also a customer. So your suggestion is important. Smile [:)]

Good idea. I like the open idea concept; any topic as long as it is historical in nature pertaining to modeling.

If nothing else it might narrow down the search for a history related post if you perfer to browse rather then use an engine.

If resources are a crucial point toward establishing historical accuracy during discussions, why not call the forum "The Library" or "Research Room"? History could be discussed in light of available resources. In addition, resources could be cited, and maybe even new and even old books reviewed. It might also be a place to include a collection or central repository (a sticky maybe?) of good historical web links suitable to modelers. Just a thought....

Great idea. I would most likely spend more of my time in here than in any other. I love to build historical things like that. I think it would be a great idea. Big Smile [:D]

Excellent idea. You might consider just calling it " Sound Off!" or something catchy like "Roll Call". Can't use "Mail Call", Lee Ermy might get a little sideways on us.
