nothing wrong with digging up an occasional old post, some have some worthwhile information that never goes bad

Digging up old posts for old information or adding new information to an old post isn't really the problem. The problem is when someone replies to an 8 year old post like it was made 20 minutes ago. Then half a dozen people add responses until someone notices the date of the question. Often times the original question was answered 8 years ago and the original poster is long gone.

For some reason the new person digging up the old post never seems to realize the age of the post or that they are giving the same answer that was posted several times originally. It kind of makes them look clueless.

I don't mind an old post getting revived, I agree with the others.

... too many "good job"   "nice"  etc... just ties up the whole system

That's an argument for a Like feature, that allows members to express approval without having to attach a post to the thread.

I can see where you are coming from on some posts.  Some question that was asked 5 years ago is suddenly answered today and the guy who asked the question in the first place isn't even here anymore.

I was thinking the same thing, some old posts could have information that is still relevant today.  Locking it would result in duplicate threads being created.

The only negative I see of an old post is sometimes picture links no longer work, or an original participant might not be around to respond to new postings.

regards,

Jack

i have posts going back about 12 yrs.  i know in the past yes i was guilty of replying to/digging up old posts.

lately there has been a  great interest in the fact that there are too many posts. if a post is locked say after 12-18 months it would help
