Since I'm fairly new here, my .02 is not worth much, but the civil page already is subtitled everything besides military.

But for what it is worth, I go along with Nathan, the 3 sub pages in each main page would be nice, and that would go for all the main page groups.  I think it would save some digging if you want to follow a certain WIP.

Humm, I kinda like that idea Nathan,

If I understand you correctly, your sayin to have a main topic, i.e. Aircraft, Armor, Sci-Fi/Space  Etc. and then have sub categories of WIP, which would comprise (military, airliners) or in the case of armor (WW2, Cold War, or even Axis, Ally, NATO....), then completed builds category, questions category Etc.?

That would probably cut down the confusion, at least on the top layer, keep special interest in their subgroups and DE clutter very large forums such as aircraft and armor.

Yes, basically, just don't think we need all those sub forums, at least not right away. For Now just:

Military Aircraft all Eras:

               General Info

               Work in Progress

               Completed builds

Same layout for Civil. Something for the Mods to consider...

I think we could possibly get good use out of renaming the Aircraft forum to say Military Aircraft. But, regarding taking the "Airliners" title out of the Civil and Airliners,,,,,,I don't think that is a good idea,,,,,,,we want those two categories to remain connected so that new members can find them both (Airliners is a sub-set of Civil aircraft in real life, after all)

Anyone building a DC-3 will know enough about the aircraft to go look in both Military and Civil for build tips, anyway.  Same with a Piper Cub,,,,,anyone building a USN ambulance version would know to look for J-3 stuff in Civil. We need the forums set up for the people that don't know these nuances to be able to find what they need for their models. Face it, a guy building a C-48 can find what he needs no matter what the layout is.

I keep wondering if we should have a Work in progress sub forum for aircraft, along with a finished build's sub forum. General aircraft questions could then be posted to a main topic forum labeled; in Baron's case: Military aircraft. ...But then the question arises, should we have the same sub forums under all main topics, ie Armour, ships ...etc. I'd say just aircraft for now, as that forum is so busy and filled with general info, that work in progress threads just get buried and get less comments and views.

Seems to me the traffic count itself is not the objective, but like minded traffic.

Isn't an aircraft forum like minded whether it is military or civilian? Like your post a few weeks back "Why aren't civil aircraft interesting". You had posed the question "But what is it then that makes an airplane cool?", that tells me that all aircraft subjects would be like minded.

I think the opposite of this posts premise. Why DO we split the aircraft forum into two categories instead of one? Aren't all aircraft subjects minded?

Just sayin.

Well, that's another point altogether.  Why split the modeling subjects out at all?  Armor, ships, aircraft, figures, cars, etc--why not one big forum?  After all, we like building models.  Why shouldn't we want to see all threads for various subjects side by side?

Unfortunately, I feel airliner/private build pics wouldn't get much traffic if only restricted to a Civi site. As of now I can post an airliner I build on the aircraft forum and get a whole lot more traffic. After all isn't that why we post pics in the first place?

If I understand your point correctly, then we shouldn't even have two separate aircraft forums but a single one for all aircraft, regardless of the subject.  That can be debated, too, on its own merits.  My point is that we have two now, and sometimes folks aren't sure where to post their aircraft builds, so we should rename the forums for clarity.  But certainly, merging the two is also a suggestion.

However, a lot of people take this to extremes, posting pictures of their new aircraft in the General forum.  Seems to me the traffic count itself is not the objective, but like minded traffic.

Rename the Aircraft forums, to reduce confusion

I recommend renaming the "Aircraft" forum as "Military Aircraft".  There seems to be some confusion at times, even though the forum for civilian aircraft is called "Airliners and Civil Aircraft".  In fact, it might be a good idea to rename that one, too, just as "Civilian Aircraft".

Best regards,

Brad
