As long as the file size of signature images or animations is less than a hundred kb then I don't think it will case problems in downloading speeds.

Definatly on, and I have dialup. I think they are a part of our personalities, and how we can get to know each other.

On, but I have to admit that sometimes they get annoying even though I have broadband at home and at work. Especially on a thread with lots of posts and lots of sig pix. Try to read something while it's loading and the screen is constantly resizing.

I leave them on. Having the ability to turn them on and off is great but even with dial-up I've never had a problem with them. This just wouldn't be the same great place without them.

Hello Everyone!! I have them on when I am on Broadband but older dial-ups i turn them off!!!! I leave them on if I can. But I must say that some of them are too large and bit annoying. To have a huge space taken up again and again. Maybe if the ones that are to remain the same were smaller and the signature ones that are very large be temparory or on rotation. Some are just to big to see over and over again and to have to keep scrolling down just to see the next response!!!! Please don't get offensive. This is just my My 2 cents [2c]!!!! Take Care!!!!! Big Smile [:D]
Cheers!!!! Smile [:)]Cool [8D]

Good poll.

It's good to hear the reasons/thoughts behind the answer. I mean I could pull the stats on who's got them turned on and who's got them turned off. Wink [;)]

Another case is where sigs are turned on and they're quick one sentence replies back and forth. In one forum I've been in, people asked that for subsequent posts within the same thread that sigs be turned off.

I leave them on, even though I'm on dial up. I enjoy most of the Sigs, although a few are a little too much.

All options are left on. I surf this forum mostly at work, so the T3 line helps. However, I do think that some members, ahem, no names named, really overdo it. Freaking 30 lines of signature is a little excessive I think. I can understand a line or two with one pic. But so many people here have far in excess of that. GB badges not applying, enough is enough, as it is kind of a self-indulgence, and annoying to say the least.

I have sig's on. but, thats because I don't know enough yet about many of the steps we use in producing our individual posts!!. as oyu can see, mine has no quotes, no pictures, no icons. just alot of my yacking... semper fi, mike. oh!!!. I do like the stuff on each persons page. I think it says a little about that person.

Even though I have a signature (consisting of only four words), I turn them off. Some of the signatures are so huge that: 1) they seem to slow down my system, and 2) some of them are just bordering on the "overdone" scale. I think I have family Christmas albums which contain fewer/smaller pictures.

These are very Interesting replies and I see that after starting this poll, I'm definitely in the minority. I also have a cable modem connection and speed is not an issue. However, I have them turned off because for me they take up TOO much space and detract (or better, distract) from the questions, answers, and comments that I'm trying to read.

Keep the relies coming.

I'll just throw this out there...

What if...in addition to the current signature, people were provided with a box to type in a text-only signature limited to a certain number of characters. Then the options for signatures could be:

Do you wish to view members signatures when reading posts?
Yes - Text & Graphics
Yes - Text Only
No

David,

That is an outstanding idea!!!

A text only version of the signatures would be perfect for me.
