That was easy enough...

Try it out. Wink [;)]

Make sure to provide a text version for people who choose the "Text Only" verions. Website addresses are permitted in that version also -- just no pictures. Smile [:)]

I kinda prefer to leave them on.....even with dial-up connection.
I like to see the changes that people make to their signature pictures. Some of them are really eye catching. Some people post pics of their current builds and it's interesting to see them as well.

Cheers, LeeTree

On. I agree with the others that they are part of our personalities. I enjoy them. I like to see the different art, model build, or "Tiger of the Day". LOL

I have them on. Even when I had dial up I left them on. Not only does it give a nice touch to the conversations, but you can tell who the post is from without even looking at the name. A certain other forum that seemed to have about had WW3 over signitures just feels boreing and inpersonal.

Looks like someone ground up a whole bunch of pool stick chalk and stuck it in the barrel before they fired off the round. Wink [;)]

BTW...if you click on the "reply to topic" icon, scroll down the page and see what a thread looks like with just the username and text. Talk about boring. Wink [;)]

David,

That is an outstanding idea!!!

A text only version of the signatures would be perfect for me.

I'll just throw this out there...

What if...in addition to the current signature, people were provided with a box to type in a text-only signature limited to a certain number of characters. Then the options for signatures could be:

Do you wish to view members signatures when reading posts?
Yes - Text & Graphics
Yes - Text Only
No

These are very Interesting replies and I see that after starting this poll, I'm definitely in the minority. I also have a cable modem connection and speed is not an issue. However, I have them turned off because for me they take up TOO much space and detract (or better, distract) from the questions, answers, and comments that I'm trying to read.

Keep the relies coming.

Even though I have a signature (consisting of only four words), I turn them off. Some of the signatures are so huge that: 1) they seem to slow down my system, and 2) some of them are just bordering on the "overdone" scale. I think I have family Christmas albums which contain fewer/smaller pictures.

I do like the stuff on each persons page. I think it says a little about that person.

All options are left on. I surf this forum mostly at work, so the T3 line helps. However, I do think that some members, ahem, no names named, really overdo it. Freaking 30 lines of signature is a little excessive I think. I can understand a line or two with one pic. But so many people here have far in excess of that. GB badges not applying, enough is enough, as it is kind of a self-indulgence, and annoying to say the least.

I leave them on, even though I'm on dial up. I enjoy most of the Sigs, although a few are a little too much.

Good poll.

It's good to hear the reasons/thoughts behind the answer. I mean I could pull the stats on who's got them turned on and who's got them turned off. Wink [;)]

On, but I have to admit that sometimes they get annoying even though I have broadband at home and at work. Especially on a thread with lots of posts and lots of sig pix. Try to read something while it's loading and the screen is constantly resizing.

Another case is where sigs are turned on and they're quick one sentence replies back and forth. In one forum I've been in, people asked that for subsequent posts within the same thread that sigs be turned off.
