In between power outages. . .
Could you guys in Wisconsin quit with the sending the nasty weather over here?
Bad enough the holiday messes with mail delivery, but the drifts of snow three feet high may keep the mailman off my street for weeks!

Even though it is a cold and blustery day with frozen beads of ice being pelted at the windows, my heart knows the warmth of joy!
Thanks Dave.

International mail being what it is, I understand.
It might cheer you up to know that when I was a subscriber, I got my issues late too. . .and I just live across Lake Michigan from Kalmbach!

I didn't even bother to sign up with the temporary code because only 2 weeks ago I got hold of the November issue at the local newspaper stand. It wil probably be past New Year before I can buy the December issue. So it's probably best for me to go by the rule:"What I don't know, I cannot miss" (or something like that?).

I'll just stick to the forum as I know it now.

Sigh [sigh]

Smile [:)] Kind of a "GOTCHA" here. . .
In FAQ's Dave says news stand codes are good for 90 days. . . but the temporary code we got for November is good for about two weeks!
C'mon guys, extend it for the entire month at least, that would work wouldn't it?

I refered to it as "secret" when I tore apart the December issue looking for the code Mark Thompson made reference to in the editorial. It wasn't until later that the FSM site managers told us that it wasn't in the issue. . .thus secret. It took an e-mail to Mark to get my temporary code mailed back to me.
No matter how you slice it, dice it, julienne it, or put lipstick on it, it is a tool to get subscribers and we, well I, have been down that road before.
I prefer my issue to get to me on the day it is released in decent readable condition. To do so I go to the the LHS and buy it. If that means I am not the loyal reader a subscriber is and not able to get certain access, okay, your rules, I'm just the player. . .and players have been known to disagree with the rule enforcers from time to time.
So if I am to be "suspended" for a week or two, exiled away from the places loyal readers can go, well,
"I will not go quietly into that dark night."

5 days to exile

Which supplies the arrow for our point!

From the thread FAQ: Membership Benefits:
Subscriber
  • Workbench reviews
  • Modeling Product Search
  • E-mail Newsletter
  • Forum Access
Newsstand
Requires use of newsstand access code, which is valid for 90 days.
  • Workbench reviews
  • Modeling Product Search
  • E-mail Newsletter
  • Forum Access
Clearly denoting that Subscriber and Newsstand have equal benefits and that the access code is valid for a much longer period of time than the temporary code provided to re-registered members (which fulfills my previously stated wish!). As it stands now, the access code expires on the 22nd of November, effectively cutting us (the non-subscriber, but loyal newstand buyers) off from benefits that rightly belong to us.

As the December Editorial clearly stated that the access code was to begin that month, even though that was in error, I feel that FSM should extend the access code until the January issue is released. In fact they should extend the access code until the middle of January, since the international buyers usually can't buy the current issue until the middle of the published month. When the code expires on the 22nd, some of the loyal readers will be cut off from accessing a benefit they deserve for almost two months.

What says the editors?

So long folks!

There are two posts that should help explain what it's about.  The first outlines the differences and the second explains more about the access code.

What secret code?

I guess I wasn't paying attention when I 'came back'. So what's this about limited access and temporary passwords? Does one have to subscribe to FSM to get access to all of this website? Is there, in fact, two levels of participants here? Those with total access and those without?

I know it isn't a full banishment, but the priciple is the same,
We're all equal, we all purchase FSM, we are all loyal readers of FSM, but some are more equal than others and that chaps me!
I don't even go to the other departments that much, but now I am not allowed to come and go as I please and that isn't right.
I know FSM game, FSM rules, But I still don't like it.

I get the magazine from the newstands long before the previous month runs out. If it becomes a problem we can figure something out...

The only thing that will be shut down will be our access to the workbench reviews and such. The forum will be open to us, as it is to everybody who wishes to register.

I'm a bit put off about the temporary access being turned off on Nov 22, none the less. The January issue is a fair distance in the future, and the December issue's editorial said that the code would be in that issue. I think FSM should extend the temporary access until the end of December.
