email notification gone bananas!

i ask this a week after the new forum started and it has been 2-3 of the same e-mail notices for that long now

the only new thing i noticed yesterday is i must hit delete 3-4 times before they go away

I really like that feature, makes it much easier when I'm at work.  I simply log into my personal e-mail account and see the replies to the posts I am interested in.  If I want to add something, the link takes me right to it, I say my piece and move on.  Makes it very easy to stay up on the boards.

The only down side is I'll have a bagillion e-mails in my inbox when I get home, but no biggie, sort by sender, select all the finescale e-mails, delete.  LOL

You'd probably like one of the features the developers of this forum software have been working on.  It allows you to subscribe to a forum (similar to how you can now) but instead of having to visit the forum to reply, you could post a reply via email -- hit reply, type the message, and send. Aside from having to upgrade the forum software, I don't know if we'll be able to provide this feature here due to licensing costs -- but it would be neat to try out here once.  I've used it on the development site and it's pretty cool!

i don't like that idea, and you should not either  because in the end you will get less people out there and i know many people see the problem already now this could make it worse

here is why

when i read my email i clik on the link to reply to what ever it may be and while i am out there(on your site) i scan other posts too and i know that many of us do the same thing. if one answers the post just thru the email they wont really be visiting the site and therefore less visits less participation etc..

this is  just my opinion

i could be wrong and if i am  cool

but worth a  little thought

The beauty of that feature is the ability to quickly and easily stay on top of the existing threads that we're interested, especially when involved in a busy group build, while we're at work and "surfing" time is limited.  I still look at all the active topics a couple times a day like at lunch time and especially when I get home from work.

Well, ya see, back when these huge lizard looking things roamed the Earth, and the caveman actually lived in caves they needed a way to communicate with other cave soceitys without the danger of being eaten by large predators, so they took a makeshift can and tied strings between them, they would throw them up in the air against the roof of the cave to let the other caves know they need to talk, that is how they got "dial up" They later adapted it to use to buy modeling supplies from scale plastic wheel suppliers at whole sale prices!
