I set those email replies to one of my gmail accounts and gmail actually bundles together the emails for the same thread and give a total number of how many replies there had been next to the email topic.  It's working out pretty well for me I think....  cept that my work started to block out gmail!!! $%#$

Well, ya see, back when these huge lizard looking things roamed the Earth, and the caveman actually lived in caves they needed a way to communicate with other cave soceitys without the danger of being eaten by large predators, so they took a makeshift can and tied strings between them, they would throw them up in the air against the roof of the cave to let the other caves know they need to talk, that is how they got "dial up"Big Smile [:D] They later adapted it to use to buy modeling supplies from scale plastic wheel suppliers at whole sale prices!

That might have been why that feature exists.

It's funny you mention that because it's not uncommon to see some of the developers posting with a note added "posted from my blackberry".  Smile [:)]

With that feature, you can even create new threads via email.

So imagine, you're in a boring meeting and all you can think about is your latest build.  When suddenly you're struck with a "What if..." question.  Why wait till the meeting is over and risk losing the thought.  You could post the question to the forum immediately. Laugh [(-D]

I could always include links to the last 5 posts at the bottom of the message. Wink [;)]

I don't know, I honestly haven't given it too much thought due to the cost of the license to enable that feature.  Without the right license, it's a non-issue.

[btw, email notification seems to be working well so far...]

The beauty of that feature is the ability to quickly and easily stay on top of the existing threads that we're interested, especially when involved in a busy group build, while we're at work and "surfing" time is limited.  I still look at all the active topics a couple times a day like at lunch time and especially when I get home from work.

You'd probably like one of the features the developers of this forum software have been working on.  It allows you to subscribe to a forum (similar to how you can now) but instead of having to visit the forum to reply, you could post a reply via email -- hit reply, type the message, and send.

Aside from having to upgrade the forum software, I don't know if we'll be able to provide this feature here due to licensing costs -- but it would be neat to try out here once.  I've used it on the development site and it's pretty cool!  Smile [:)]

David i know as a web developer (computer geek) (i am one too) this excites you and i understand it but..........

i don't like that idea, and you should not either  because in the end you will get less people out there and i know many people see the problem already now this could make it worse

here is why

when i read my email i clik on the link to reply to what ever it may be and while i am out there(on your site) i scan other posts too and i know that many of us do the same thing. if one answers the post just thru the email they wont really be visiting the site and therefore less visits less participation etc..

this is  just my opinion

i could be wrong and if i am  cool

but worth a  little thought

That's odd.

I apologize for those of you who have been affected by this, it's certainly not intentional.

I haven't noticed because like Bill said, I turned it off myself.  Everytime a new post is made, it sends out an email.

The only down side is I'll have a bagillion e-mails in my inbox when I get home, but no biggie, sort by sender, select all the finescale e-mails, delete.  LOL

mine seems ok today, the problem is if it happens to one, it seems like it happens to all of them. Some days it will be fine, other days it will go crazy???

It appears that the problem has been corrected as I'm getting one e-mail per new post.

Houston, we have a problem - I'm also getting duplicate notifications of new posts, generally in sets of 3.

I get e-mails for the ones that I've requesteed to get e-mail replies.  The problem is, starting today I'm getting 3 notifications for each individual post, for each reply.  For example, your reply to this post caused 3 e-mails to be sent to my e-mail address, instead of the usual 1 e-mail.
