How to add links in a post?
Posted by Daywalker on Saturday, December 12, 2009 2:00 PM

On the old forum, we simply had to add the url between the [ and ], and type in what words would appear as the direct link.

[-u-r-l-http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2004/05/stuff_eng_interior_colours_us_part3.htm-]-l-i-n-k-[-/-u-r-l-]

(without the dashes)

Tried that here, but it doesn't work.  Can anyone help?

If you mean you want a direct link, but not show the address, you do it like this:

[ url=/forums/t/123324.aspx ]How to add links in a post[ /url ] only without spaces.

If you want a link to be a "hot" link and show the address you paste the address into the post and highlight it:

Then you click on the "Link" button in the editing menu above:

Then paste the URL address into the "Link URL" box cell and select "Insert":

You will now have a "hot" link as below:

/forums/t/123324.aspx

Thanks Bill!  The first way is the way I have been doing it for years, but today I tried it in a conversation and it did not work.  I wonder why?  Unfortunately, I could not edit it so had to send another with the second way done.

I'll try it here.

***EDIT***

Cool!  Works the same way it used to!  Still wonder why it doesn't work in a conversation.

Frank, I just sent you a conversation with three different ways of adding links. The old hand coding method doesn't seem to work.

But, I did discover that if you type the "title" of the link, highlight it, use the insert link button and put the "real" URL and insert it, it works the same way:

This may be a bit easier!

Thanks Bill, I tried the method you sent me and it seemed to work well!  In the above post, clicking the link brings it up in the same tab on menu.  To change that, I simply edit the box in the link editing box that pops up, right?

Same tab on menu? Oh! I get it. Yes, clicking the link opens the link on the existing tab.

There is a "Target" option that allows you to set it to open in the same tab, or a new tab. I've gotten into the habit of using the Wheel Button (not everyone knows that the wheel is also a clickable button), which opens links as new tabs by default.

I've never figured out what the "Title" option does, unless it puts a title on the tab? Hmmm, let me Try That!

Edit

Nope! I have no clue what the darn Title thing does!

So long folks!
