Searching the various forums
Posted by icit on Monday, February 9, 2015 4:34 PM

I am not having much success with searching the individual forms and I assume it's because of what I'm typing into the search box, for example: if I want to know if its okay to use testors dullcote over Vallejo paints I would want to go to the painting and airbrushing forum and type in my question, but to avoid asking the same questions that 10 people have already ask what would I type in and is there certain format for wording to follow to the get the best results?

Searches are not specific to a certain section of the forum, it searches the whole community. The search will pick up any words you type in, so you will get results that are nothing to do with what you are asking. Try to be short but specific. But if after a couple of attempts, I would just ask. Someone may tell you to use the search function, but if you know you have done the best you can, then you can tell them that.

I do find searches a bit frustrating at times, especially when looking for something I know I have seen but can't recall where.

I spent over an hour Friday night looking for something I know I had seen, PJ's explanation on how he simulates wood grain with oils. I knew I had seen that explanation in the Monogram Mafia GB but it took me forever to look through the posts. I finally found it.

Sounds like good advise Bish, but should I just type the key words spaced apart or should I put a + sign between them?

I think the best bet is to look at the description of the forums when you click on Discussion Forums on the header or footer.  There is a pretty good description of each forum, so you should be able to see which forums would be the most appropriate. If there is no current thread relating to your problem just start a new thread.
