Best Free Photo Hosting Site
Posted by 70gtvert on Sunday, February 15, 2015 12:59 PM

I'm using photobucket now and all it will let me post with my post is a link, and half the time that doesen't even work for whatever reason. Looking for a site where the actual photo can be posted, not just a link to a photo. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. John.

That's curious.  I've used Photobucket for many years and have never not been able to post my pics.  Something surely seems amiss.  Have you ever been able to post your actual pics before?

I read complaints about PB here on a semi-regular basis.

I'm guessing I've used PB for 10 years, I've never had an issue once.

In PB, you need to select the "direct" option when copying to your clipboard.

Then here, you have to use rich text formatting and hit the image button and paste your clipboard into the dialogue box that pops up.

Greg, I've never had to go through those steps to post a pic from Photobucket.  The copied IMG code at the thumbnail just pastes into the message and appears when posted.  That seems much easier to me.( I do always answer/post in rich text mode though.)   Have you ever tried that method?  Cheers!

See, a link, not a picture. I would like to post a picture not a hit or miss link to one. Any thoughts?

I used PB for years and just recently switched to ImageShack for $19 a year. My computer was loaded with over 500 Malware files possibly thru PB. The computer repair shop I took my PC to told me that PB is one of the known sites for introducing Malware thru pop ups. Not even Malwarebytes stopped the intrusions.

Cannot get photobucket to work  each attempt. It works sometimes, other times it won't let me. Any tips on getting it to work consistently or any other free photo hosting site that does work?

Where is the "clipboard" and how do you use "direct" when copying to it? This is likely my problem.

I've never heard of the "clipboard" or any "direct" method.  And I've probably posted hundreds of pictures from Photobucket over the years.  This is how I do it-after you upload your pictures from your computer, they will appear as thumbnail pictures on PB.  Beneath the thumbnails are several options, I've always used the fourth one down, IMG.   If you left-click the box to the right of IMG. the code in the box will appear blue now.  Right-click and choose "copy".  Now, go back to the message you are composing here and simply "paste" the copied code (remember?  the one you copied with right-click?) into your message.  It (the pic) will appear when you post the message.  Try this, and see if it works for you.  Good luck!

Gary

Just to be sure, I just followed those directions and pasted this pic into my post.

Yep, Gary is right. That is the same way I did it when I used PB. If you keep having problems, click on the contact tab and send a message. I had a very nice lady named Sarah answer and she that took care of the issues I was having.

On a PC, when we copy, the information goes to the PC's 'clipboard'. When we paste, it pastes from the 'clipboard'. Referencing the clipboard was unnecessarily confusing on my part, and Gary has it right, just "copy" and "paste" and don't worry about how your computer is handling it. Smile Sorry.

The "direct" option I referred to is just one of the four copying options (email and IM, Direct, HTML, and Image) in PB.

At any rate, happy to see you successfully posted a picture!

Gary, I got curious after reading your initial reply here about using "IMG". Tested it and you're right, it works.

Might be a bit confusing to a new user though because the image does not show up in the message preview window. I think I actually prefer doing it your way now, thanks. Bow Down

Like PJ, I use Imageshack now and am WAY happier with it. I won't even look at my PB images any more. I still have them over there so I don't loose any of my past links, but I copied all my pics to Imageshack.

Greg, you're right, the main thing is to be able to see the pic, no matter what method one uses!

To illustrate just how unobservant I am, I was posting here for years before I noticed the "preview" option up above the text window!  D'oh! Huh?

At any rate, once you've pasted in the copied code from PB, the pic will appear when checking your post with said "preview".  If I've helped simplify posting pics for you, or anyone else, then great and you are very welcome of course.Beer

And, just to be sure about that, I pasted in some code, and checked with preview.  And sure enough, there it is!Big Smile

Love that photo.  I call that type of shot a realistic picture vs the eBay type photo, which I call model-as-art-object.  I have created a bunch of photo backdrops by taking photos at airports, auto race tracks, mansions (for classic cars) and lakeshore/seashore.  Then I can shoot the realistic shots in my  backyard.

Speaking of unobservant, Gary, I never noticed the preview tab until you mentioned it a above. Finally got around to testing it out, works like a charm. IMO, makes posting mutlitple images in one post easier.

Thanks again, and sorry about my slow response.

Thanks Don!   I like taking my model's out to the airport for pics.   Natural light works great for me, and the surroundings do lend an air of authenticity to the planes.  I've used our airport here in Cameron, Texas for most but nearby Rockdale also has a neat little airport and it works well for the same purpose.
