Not getting any Forum messages: "Email Notification" shows contradiction
Posted by EBergerud on Thursday, March 12, 2020 1:31 AM

I sent almost exactly this email in February 2018. As of now I subscribed to the World At War 1944, World at War 1945, Japanese Group Build VIII, British Army GB 2020. I've used forums for years and definitely subscribed to all. A look at my "Email Notifications" page shows that I am not subscribed to any receive any forum mail under the "Forums" Tab. Under the "Forum Topics" there is a list to every GB forum and all other forums that I have posted on and requested return email: all of them. There is an option in the Forum Topics Page to "REMOVE" my email from the listed Group. Obviously the "Email Notifications" tab - which shows I have zero subscriptions - and the "Forum Topics" which show I am listed on several forums (including the Group Builds I subscribed to recently) so that something is confused. (Just for kicks, I subscribed to another group today - it appeared under "forum topics" but not under email notifications: so I removed the GB from Forum Topics and it promptly vanished. So at least one part of the system is working. Something's wrong.

As of January 15 2020 I ceased receiving any posts from any Finescale Forum. (As noted this happened for a while in 2018). Prior I had received several from World at War 1945 and Japanese GB VIII - as I have learned to expect during years of using FS forums. I can't do anything about this - I asked customer service and they think all of these posts are going to spam - they aren't. I think it's quite obvious that the data in my Email Notifications page shows an self-evident contradiction.

My subscription has lapsed after many years. Unless that is keeping me off the forum - as I understand it a subscription is not required - and nobody told me that my subscription had lapsed - something is off on your end. For years I have scheduled my builds along with the Group Builds. I'd like to do that again, but can't if I don't receive posts. If you can fix things I will gladly renew. If not, I'll have to move to Facebook and Kitmaker. Please try to see what's wrong here - I've been a customer for years.

So under my email notifications I see all the topics i am subscribed to but don't get notifications on anymore - every one, even new ones - I get no notifications at all on threads and messages.   When I click remove, nothing happens....  I can then go to that thread and I see no subscribe link - then assuming bc I'm still subscribed and not getting notifications......  I wonder if there is any way for us to test and report back how many other are having this issue and not receiving notifications and are seeing this same behavior?  Maybe it would help them in where To look in getting it fixed.

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

Welcome to the party. It's been like this off and on for almost 2 years now. Look at my July 2018 post "Not getting email notifications" and my later post "Not getting email notifications again"

This is the longest it has been going on and I feel notifcations are going the way of spell check. Remember when we had spell check? Most of the new members in the last what... 4 years? won't because it's been a while. I've given up on them for that little basic item.

Now we have to contend with this new pop add at the bottom of the screen!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now some smart A@s IT forum member will come in and tell us how unbelieveable blessed we are to have such a "free" site and how hard FSM is workng to correct the issues and wow we just don't understand and need to be patient Bla Bla Bla. Well after years, my patience is wearing thin. Private forums are doing just fine, no issues, no new pop-up adds, notifications and SPELL CHECK.

Now the same smart a#s IT forum members will say I'm free to move on. Unfortunatly I'm hosting GB's here, but which I pretty much have already moved on, there are just a few more members I'd like to bring along with me.

Maybe it is time to find a new center of your hobby life - it should be clear by now Kalmbach is not going to do anything. How about running your own forum?

I've seriously thought about it James. I'm not a IT guy and effectively about as proficient on a PC as the cassual user. Becides, there are plenty of other forums I am on and like I wrote above, I am hosting several GBs now and future ones are scheduled. Some members have purchased kits specificly for the upcomming GB's. My loyalty to those members will not allow me to abandon them.

It's not clear though.  The Enash lady just asked to hear from people so they could work on it.  Are you saying she's deliberately lying?

If they are just getting rid of notifications totally, why wouldn't they say that or just not respond instead of bringing up the subject?

Keep in mind that the e-mail notification problem affects all Kalmbach forums, not just the FSM forum.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Maybe they just dont want to fix it - heres a thread of an Apple syncing/photos problem thats been going on long before this link here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250661815?answerId=252362731022&page=1

Apple has no reason to fix it or make it work bc they want more people to go to the cloud and hopefully pay for the service once people start to run out of free space.  While many have spent hours of their time troubleshooting on their own and with Apple - free guinee pigs (they collect tons of data submitted if agreed to)- Apple most likely doesnt care bc they still have people buying the product... Kinda like me here - I still dont get notifications but continue to keep logging in, logging out, logging in logging out to check back on topics i am interested in or need help with.  Maybe FSM gets to show all the logging in/out as additional web traffic and can monetize that?  Who the he** knows.....

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

Hey everyone!

So first and foremost, I promise you there is no conspiracy behind why the forum notification issue has not been fixed. It's simply a matter of a limited number of employees with the know-how to fix it. Rest assured that everyone at Kalmbach (especially us editors at FSM) wants this problem fixed. Covid-19 has thrown a wrench into our workflow but we are all still working to bring you a great magazine, a fun website, and a useful forum — I really am sorry the last one is not performing like it should.

I know that notifications are being received by some users, which means our IT team needs to look at individual accounts to figure out why some users are not. If you have not already reached out to me, please send me a direct message stating your problem. Please include your real name, username, and contact info. Thank you much!

And now we know much more than we did before. Communication is a great thing. In one swoop you eliminated many of our questions as to the why. I encourage you to continue with updates, even if you have nothing new to provide. It helps customers know that they are not forgotten.

Thank you.
