Editing links
Posted by Daywalker on Friday, July 6, 2007 7:39 PM
Hi, I have noticed that some people are able to edit the hyperlinks into saying what they want it to instead of the actual addy.  When I try to do it, the little box comes up for me to edit it and then I am unable to finish the process.  All the computer does is make the little bell noise and won't allow me to finish.  I'm not sure if I am accurately describing the problem, but if anyone can help- TIA!

Okay, this is pretty easy!

You need to code it yourself to get it to work, at least that's how I do it.

First you copy and paste the link into the post window

/forums/

Then you add the codes on either end and add the descriptive text you want. I've included spaces so you can see what I'm doing. You can only have spaces in the descriptive text area only, otherwise you break the code.

[ url = /forums/ ]FineScale Forums[ /url ] only remove any spaces, and you get:

FineScale Forums

Remember there can't be any spaces between the square brackets ([ ])

So long folks!

I tried it, but still can't get it to work.  Not quite sure what I am missing.

Forget using the hyperlink box (the chain link icon) which doesn't work like it's supposed to. Just try doing it all in the post window.

"Quote" my post to see how the coding really looks.

Ahhh!  Once I right clicked on the link and chose the "unlink" option, it worked!  Thanks, I'll give it some more practice!

Yep, you have to "unlink" your pasted in url link before you you can text link to it.
