Private Message Notice?
Posted by DesertRat on Monday, October 29, 2007 1:38 PM
Another suggesation to improve the forums here. And i hope that the Admins here will consider it. I'd like to suggest some kind of notice to indicate that one has an unread Private Message. Either a number in parenthasis, or a red flag or something to draw attention to it. Only way one would know if there is one unread is that email that is automatically generated, and sometimes those will go unnoticed, or recieved late, etc. Just a thought to improve. Thanks!

Warmest regards,

Roger

I think this is a great idea, as I find that I am sending and receiving more and more PMs.  It seems like it would be fairly easy to implement too.

I don't receive many PM's, but it's fun when I do Big Smile [:D] That would be nice, and I was thinking the same when I was waiting for a reply to my message a few days ago. They have kind of already solved this, as you can set it to where they'll email you each time you get a new PM.

Speaking of PM, you have one in your PM box. Big Smile [:D]

Yeah, that's kinda what i mean though. I know alotta times emails tend to get forgotten or lost in cyberspace. I was just suggesting something to highlight the fact that you have an unread PM in your inbox on the forums homepage

Yea, that's what I thought you meant. My emails disappear in my inbox before I ever see them...What goes in stays in and I never get to see it Banged Head [banghead] But, it's funny how I only receive the emails that have to do with modeling...Hawkeye's Hobbies news letter gives you a 10% off coupon on those Talon acrylic NMF's. I've been wanting to try those and I think now's a good time Dinner [dinner]

I don't think they directly can do anything about the site though, they have to contact whatever company runs the forums/website.  Sigh [sigh]

Really? I thought they had a staffer that can actually make changes and provide technical support for the forums. His name escapes me for the moment though....

Well, come to think of it, you're probably right. Or else they wouldn't be able to immediately lock up threads whenever they wanted Whistling [:-^]

Oh, I know him well! Good ol' whatamacallit with the padlocks, seems to follow me and a couple of others around. Keep it clean, young man.

Airman Jim was in the Radio Shop using the engraving tool to put his name on his tools. He looked up to see the Sergeant, who had more stripes than Jim had arm, and Jim's a real big fella, played defensive end for Ol' Miss', looking over his shoulder.

"Whatcha doin', boy??

"Putting my name on my tools, Sir".

"Issat so when they find your channel locks in the jet engine, they can return em to you???"

"Ohhh..."

Every other forum I have the pleasure of participating in has PM notification. This is the frst and ONLY one I know of that doesn't. So what if it is run by a contractor or outside vendor. Who pays the bill for their service?

C'mon FSM, get with the program and get it changed!

Cheers, David
