Moderators, please address...?
Posted by the doog on Monday, January 11, 2010 6:21 AM

Hi,

I know that the moderators DO read this site, so I'm asking them to address this issue instead of emailing someone at Kalmbach directly and pestering them when you guys have enough to do already! Embarrassed I would hope that you would indulge me here publicly where the "public" can read what I'm sure are similar concerns?

BRAVO! for being able to find all of my old posts once again. Great to see that issue has been resolved!

The #1 annoyance that I find is the process in which, after posting, you must click 'RETURN TO THE THREAD"--which then kicks you to the FIRST page of the thread, necessitating sometimes a third, or even fourth "click" again in order to get back to the latest page. This is just plain annoying as hell. Of course, you can get around this by "Quick Post"ing, but is there a reason that the "Reply" feature is set up this way in the first place? Can't it be changed to return you to the latest page by default?

Also, how do you get notified of posts to your own, or other, threads?

Thanks, guys and girls!

When posting a thread, underneath the text box, there's a box that you can check that says 'Email me replies to this post.' At the top of every thread, there's also a box that says 'Email me when someone replies' in green text. Another option, if you want a notification each time there is a new thread in a forum, such as in Aircraft, Armor, etc, on the right side of the screen, there's a box that says 'Shortcuts.' Underneath that, there's the Forum Subscriptions link. Click on that link and you can choose which forums you'd like a notification for when there's a new post.

If you're not getting these, in the 'Edit Your Profile' section, make sure you have the correct email and that the 'Receive E-mail' and 'Send Notifications' options is on 'Yes."

Hope this helped.

Thanks, Megan, that answers the second question the Doog put in his post.  But is there a status update on the first question/issue that he brought up?

I know that I've added a thread in the technical forum-sorry! technical discussion-(/forums/t/123230.aspx)  (which may have been observed by the support staff, but which so far has no response/acknowledgement from the staff) and I have seen this same complaint/observation offered by many users, since the upgrade.

The current functionality represents a regression, since functionality has been lost (I test software for a living, that's our in-house definition when testing a new app or new version of an existing app).  Ideally it would be a configuration setting of some kind for the user's account, but even if we could only have it one way or the other, I think support is there to have the pages default to returning the poster to the thread in which he posted, as the page used to do.

Thanks!

Megan, I'll look for that, and thank you for the prompt reply--but as Brad said, is there any chatter going on there about resolving the first--and what seems to be the most complained-about--problem which I brought up, or are we stuck with that aspect of the forum?

Unfortunately, I feel like the mods have adopted a 'we've broken their will to resist' mentality.  After the initial furor, when people vented their (our) spleens on the new forum, we all kind of settled in to see what would come of it.  The uproar died down and it seems like the mods have taken that as a sign that no furthur changes are needed, like the whole 'Post verification' screen that you mentioned doog (and is UNIVERSALLY HATED - HELLOOOOOO ANYONE OUT THERE LISTENING), or the lack of page numbers at the top of each thread page or the ability to easily navigate into or out of threads anylonger (aka the 'Forum Jump' feature of the old forum).

What is really frosting me is that number of threads that get opened up in the feedback or help sections, but that never get any response from anyone at FSM.  The result, we have NO WAY of knowing if they are reading or paying attention.  Like here is one for you guys and gals in the cushy chairs:

Did you know that the 'Forum Rules and Etiquette' Section is EMPTY (save for a thread started by Hans von Hammer after the new forum started)?  Sooo, no posted restriction agains buying/selling/trading, no guidelines on appropriate language or behavior....  All that 'important stuff', GONE!!  Awesome....

OOOPS.  Let me correct myself....  The forum rules are there, but because of the stupid default sorting feature (only posts more recent than two months show up) you have to go in and physically change the sorting default to be able to see that.

Now tell me, how many people (especially NEW MEMBERS) are going to know to do that?

Brilliant....

Most OLD members don't know to do that!
