Spell check doesn't bother me much either way, but would like to see a return of the box that showed what members were logged ont the site.

AS, we really do appreciate what you do for the mag and the site.

LOL! Nah, no trap here. At least not on my part. I just saw a moment of opportunity and took advantage of that. And it does show that you're paying attention to what's going on in here. Thank you for the response!

But we still have a nannybot to remove all our banned words... Whistling

Waaaaiiiiit..... thought those were banned words??

They're not banned by the nannybot, but I have asked that users not post them because of the problems that arose from their use in the past. I politely ask again that they not be used. I really don't want to take a hard line at the holidays.

Cheers, Aaron

Aaron, now that we have you here, what is the status on the spell check?

Wow, I fell right into that trap didn't I.Tongue Tied

Unfortunately, Stik, I don't have any more news. I have asked a couple of times about the possibility of getting spellcheck back, but it remains a work in progress.

Cheers, Aaron

Ahh, my pet peeve on this site. I have been screaming about its return since the change, what a year or so ago?
I will usually open Word and type out a post, then copy and paste. But I’m surprised on how many spellings I get right. It is more for the fat finger syndrome. It’s a pain, but it works. Keeps me from looking totaly stupid.

I quite agree. Let that add that what's truly inane here at FSM is that a relatively sophisticated digital site can't seem to figure out a way to allow members to upload images from their own computer files, with a simple Flick-style upload format, rather than having to post the images first on a seperate photo-storage site and then jump through multiple hoops there and here. THAT's archaic and annoying.

It's also what every other modelling forum I have been on does. I find the system of loading photos here eaiser than most others.

I do find the lack of a spell checker anoying. As others have mentioned, it's often down to fat fingurs rather then not being able to spell. I often post here first then copy and paste to otehr forums only then to see...

...just how many spelling mistakes i have made.

Somehow, some way...no matter where I'm typing, be it on this forum or that forum or an e-mail...if I misspell a word, I get a red squiggley line under it. The fix is as easy as opening another tab, start typing the word. The little pop-up "predictor" will give you the proper spelling. Not being "techy", by any stretch of the imagination, I can only assume that there's a built in spellcheck that can be turned on/off in the "settings".

I think Word *** in threads are just being pretentious (people who call out others on spelling and grammar).

I will admit, I did just that, yesterday. It was in the comments on a Youtube video (not something I typically comment on). Some jackwagon misspelled "ignorant" and "stupid" (of all words) to insult military personnel. I couldn't let that one go unchecked!

As a product of an educational system that switched from one method of teaching grammar to a totally different system between my fifth grade and sixth grade; I was totally lost. I will give credence to the thought that I may not have been very capable even without the curriculum change.  But with that change I was toast.

So the advent of spell checker has been a boon to me. It allows me to phrase things with more cogent and apropos words instead of “simple words”, because I can’t think of how to spell a more correct or precise one.

I, like a writer above, automatically prewrite my messages for this forum on MS Word.

I do find it sad and somewhat deplorable that Kalmbach Publishing Co. with the resources of its many products and their forums, would fail to provide such an integral basic function of current “e-communications”.

I agree with every point put foward so far in this thread. I do think a simple proof read will usually catch an error. It also gives you a moment for "sober second thought," particularly when discussions get a bit heated. I do use software regularly to check my spelling.

I used to be a print journalist and now I'm an accountant; in either field you have to be precise. I often find myself stunned by what some string together and call language, but I also keep my comments to myself. I think Word *** in threads are just being pretentious (people who call out others on spelling and grammar).

We used to have it!     I have mentioned it before to Aaron -- a year or so ago -- he informed me "they are working on it".  Something like that.    FSM is LITERALLY the ONLY forum I belong to (or any website for that matter) that does not utilize spell-check. But I feel like the FSM forum is kind of like using AOL in 2016 lol  But I love it none the less.

Steve, I agree completely but I do like spell check. Without it I would still have to be checking my well worn dictionary of the times. It's a great tool and usually catches my mistakes that my mother, at the time, and now my journalist wife who both kept and keeps me on the right track about proper spelling. Actually I have the ultimate spell and grammer check by being married to a Journalist and ex-English teacher who marks up my to-be publications with a large purple pen.  Confused

Sorry, but I'm on the old-school, cantankerous "kids these days" side of this "issue."

We bemoan texting because spelling, punctuation, grammar go out the window and we are losing a basic communication skill. Heaven forefend if we don't have spell check - whatever will we do?

I'm not trying to be provocative; it's just my opinion on the subject in general. I just think collectively we have become lazy.

What really burns my bottom is when I see teachers, educators posting on forums and cannot put together a sentence - let alone spell - to save their souls. It's appalling.

Yes, I'm not the great speller so I usually keep two windows open with Google on one for spell check. My wife is a retired Jounalism and English teacher and doesn't tolerate misspelling when reviewing my new found writing career. We does the best we can.

Air-ors shmair-ors...airybudy mispels werds frum tiem ta tyme!

Kinda funny sometimes, to read back a previous post and not even know what the heck you were trying to say! Thought changes mid-sentence...random word thrown in here or there, same word twice in a row.

Do what???

That to me, is funny!

I can see the "nb" happening pretty easy...the N and B live side by side...simple sausage finger slip. But the "O"??? That lives on the other side of town from the "A"!!!
