No email notifications again
Posted by modelcrazy on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 12:55 PM

Yep, that's right folks. After a hiatus of several months this little monster is appearing again.

No email notifications since at least this morning.

I have not received notifications since the "outage" of January 2020. I have asked numerous times if someone could look into this issue. So far, no response. I figure that the lack of notifications is a WAD (works as designed).

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

It just seems to me that the group of people that make changes to Kalmbach's website software have no accountability for their actions. They make changes to the website's software that results in malfunctionin of the software. They then seem to have no incentive to fix what they broke. I used to get email notifications all the time. Then one day that stopped working. However, other members continue to get email notifications. Why? I used to be a director of an IT Department for 18 years. My boss would never tolerate that kind of behaviour. I understand that the process of upgrading software can result in  unforseen consequences. What I don't understand is why those unforseen consequences are not corrected.

Quite frankly, I believe the issue is money. The powers that be running Kalmbach are focusing their efforts into things that they beleive will generate income. A few weeks ago the mods on here stated that their IT folks are focused on launching some Railroad site for Kalmbach, and that they would get to the then noted problems on FSM here eventually, after the priority project was completed. Seeing how this is a free site to any and all, and it has no real potential to generate income, the priority for such fixes is much lower on the "things to do" list. We are not paying customers and therefor we rate no such attention.

I haven't received any notifications for well over a year now and I really don't think it is going to be fixed for a while if at all.

On Ed's bench, ???

Same problem here. Will it get fixed? I would say no. Now I have a new problem. I can't login to FSM on my MacBook (403 Forbidden), but I can login using my Windows 10 PC. Will that get fixed? Again, I would say no.

I couldn't log in or out on my android for a long time but finally solved it by deleting everything having to do with the site including saved passwords.

Bump - me too. Again.....  They seemd to have stopped about the end of Jan 2021.

Also login in issues with Firefox - have to login twice - in main screen and again in forums.

Keep on modeling!

yeah, guess so. Its ashame....  I also sent a PM to Tim - no reply there (I guess. I didn't get a notification of PM - but considering, there might be a reply , I haven't  checked).  This is such a helpful site when it works. To me, the worst part I think is that they have people causing all these problems that they are probably paying to make "improvements", etc., but are actually breaking things.  And no one cares and no one is held accountable.

Well, I just checked on the PM I sent to Tim and there is nothing is my messages showing that it was sent even though I got the message sent pop up when sent...  So either it's been deleted and no reply or more likely, considering, that may be broken too ???

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

I responded to a PM sent by another member a week or two ago...shows it was sent and shows up in sent messages...no reply.  You might be on to something.  Maybe the PM system is broken too.

I just don't understand. It would seem that either everyone receives notifications, or nobody received notifications. Why is it that some members do receive notifications and some members do not receive notifications. Regarding those that do not receive notifications, it appears that the "bug" happens sporadically. I have not received notifications since January of 2020. Other members stopped receiving notificatioins just recently. Beats me!

Well, I guess we are not the only modelers that are unhappy with Kalmbach's web sites: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/287181.aspx

i think that around when i stopped gettting them too...  I also sent a pm or 2 to mgmt - no reply.  so either thats busted too or even worse.......  Getting tired of fighting and loosing interest FAST in the place unfortunately.  Seems counter intuitive to me to not fix it.

STILL NO NOTIFICATIONS

PS - but i went from having to login twice to not having to login at all now.  It seems i dont get logged out now with NO changes on my end.

So maybe their working on it, but just hit a wrong button ?!?

Keep on modeling!

William

Well it's working now! I'm getting the past months notifications which will take a few days to filter through.

Thank you FSM for getting the notifications back up. They really help me keep up with what's going on when I'm too busy to log on.
