I think they're carpet-shampooing the server....

Hi everyone!
We're experiencing traffic spikes right now on the FSM Forums and that's slowing the servers down. It did start over the weekend. Please bear with us as we get through this.
Thanks!

Hi all!
Again, sorry for the Forum's lagginess here during the last 36 hours. Traffic has been up and we hit a point where we needed to do some server maintenance. But it looks like everything is up and running pretty quickly now.

Tim, it does appear to be working again.
Thanks for addressing the issue.
Yes, performance on page loads was still irregular yesterday, whether at login or navigating between pages, with the occasional timeout and error 504. Much better today, the normal performance. Well done to the server admins!
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
The performance issue recurred again this morning, starting with logging in, and then moving from one page to another. Eventually the pages threw off error 504 again. Just to let the server admins know.

Yes, it seems we had a flutter again. We're working on a overall fix for this, but we're having to go through some bottlenecks when traffic spikes. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Just to report it as a status, the server is struggling again today. I got error 504 when I first navigated to http://cs.finescale.com/f/ to access the forum, and on saving entry, I'm getting a page showing the message that an unhandled error occurred (nothing for it in the dev tools>Console or Network tabs, though). It's not consistent, but occurred on most saves and moves so far. Refreshing the page has generally served as a workaround, though again, that's not consistent, either.

Still getting very slow page loading for some days now.
Some days I simply can't get FSM to load or have my log-in complete.
OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Was clicking on several different browsers to see if that would help but apparently this was
unknowingly posted twice.
Today I looked up a random finescale post on google and it brought me to another subject here.
After that came up, I then went to "FORUMS" and managed to get to this page.
So what's next?

I'm in the same boat; barely getting anything to load the past week. I can get into the armor forum page, and that's about it.
Even this post took a while to go through.

I think somebody from the OUTSIDE is carpet-shampooing the server. I have been unable to get in all week.
“Ya ya ya, unicorn papoi!”
Much improved today, performance is back to normal, no recurrence of error 504. Well done to the server admins!
Error 504 is back again today, pretty severely. I got it loading the index page, then when trying to browse from one page to another. Refreshing the page works as a workaround, but not consistently.
Persists today (8May24). The login page loaded relatively quickly, and login was successful. But depending on the network traffic, I suppose, the error recurs. Again, refreshing the page is a workaround; sometimes takes 2 or 3 page reloads to get the connection.
It must be the chinese because the page just keeps draggin(dragon.)
I keep getting logged out, then it gives me a hard time logging back in.
I never know what to expect here anymore.

This site is Slow Slow Slow when it responds at all. Worked fine early last week but now it's back to errors, time out and just plain slow response. Even if you're lucky enough to make contact, navigating withing the forum is also slow slow slow.
I'm at the point where I'm about to write it off entirely. Working on the problem a month is not so good. Going into the second month is unacceptable.

It took me five tries and 30 minutes to get logged in this morning. Is this going to end?
A little better today than yesterday; the login page loaded immediately. But then the 504 error recurred. Refreshing the page worked to load the index page, but the error persists. Seems like the host still has some work to do.
Tim Kidwell Yes, it seems we had a flutter again.
About a week ago, it was almost normal, for like two days.
All this week it's been 50/50 on getting a Gateway Timeout.
You can hit Reply, and maybe it 'takes' and maybe it doesn't.
One thing I have noticed is that posts apear to be way down as a result.
Many of the subfora have not seen a response in days or a week, or more.
Aircraft & Armor used to reliably have 6-12 responses per day; now, either of those might have had one response in the last 2-3 days.
There's a major bandwidth uh-oh that needs identifying.
Way better right now. @3:00PM PDT
Thanks,
John
Well, if it keeps up.... looks like new infrastructure will be the fix.
The last time I saw something similar it was a DDOS. It caused that website to die.
"Traffic spikes" as Tim called it. But no posts.

Hooray, they got the clog unstuck!
