Hello!
Posted by Nhorton on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 9:48 AM
Greetings,

Just getting back in to modeling for the first time since childhood. I'm trying to learn as much as possible as I'm excited to start the first model I bought. I think I may have bought a more advanced model than I should have, but I bought the Tamiya P-47D Thuderbolt "Razorback" model in 1/48 scale. Hope to learn a lot from everyone and share my success along the way.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] back to the hobby, and to the forums!

That is an excellent kit, with some of the best parts fit you will find on a model kit.  I built one a few years back, and have fond memories of the build.  You should really enjoy that one.  ANy questions on it, just ask! Wink [;)]

Welcome to the Forums Nick Sign - Welcome [#welcome].  As Frank said, the Tamiya T'Bolt is one of the very best kits available.  Enjoy the build.

I love flying things but I've got a place in my heart for Armor too. I get it from my childhood I think. My Father and Grandfather were both Army. (HOORAH!) However, Grandpa was the CG of Army Aviation Systems Command and had tons of models and such that he received as awards from his soldiers. Couple of his soldiers made him a farewell gift model made to look like a Cobra that was made from odds and ends from a Cobra Chopper. The fuselage was a cross section of actual rotor and the outline was made of glued chain from somewhere in the chopper. Was a neat scratchbuilt model that had special significance to him.

WElcome to the forum!

As far as your concerns of having bought a too advanced kit... Just read up on the techniques and stuff here, go buy a 5$ junk kit, practice your butt off on it, then do the advanced kit.  It's what I do whenever im trying something new.
