This kind of thing is new to an almost oldfart like me,so bear with me 'till I get into the swing of things.  I've been with the hobby for quite a while now ,(over 40 yrs),building my first kits when I was about 8. But it wasn't for a couple of years later did I start to develope a sense of precision and order in my skills. I had a good mentor, my then teenage older brother. He always had the latest hot rod magazine and built many beautiful model cars. Often he would take me along to the local hobby shop (maybe mom made him do that). My dad was career Air Force (WWII vet,Korea,SAC),so I also grew up around airplanes.Especially the B-58 Hustler.Talk about a hot rod !  Anyway; unlike most teen boys of the 70's, I was very much into building models. Some cars, but mostly airplanes ,WWII airplanes . I really cut my modelling teeth on the Monogram kits of the 70's ,any scale. After a hitch in the Air Force my model interests shifted to modern combat jets until my future wife and I moved into a 1bdrm apt . Not much space for model planes. Still, I couldn't leave the hobby alone so I started building cars .Street rods, stock cars, sprint cars, and the occasional new Detroit stuff.  In 97,got married , bought a house, tinkered with models a little, but for the first time I pretty much stepped away from the hobby. Didn't have time, the house needed work, work!, etc. In 03 , celebrated the birth of my daughter (at 45 my one and only). Past 3 or 4 yrs , figured out ways to get back to the hobby . Granted; not as hot and heavy as in earlier years .But, I've got a dedicated hobby desk (complete w/ paint & tool shelves),space to display, and I manage to build 3,4,5 kits a year. I prefer 1/48 WWII warbirds,ETO . I like this scale for the detail while still not taking up too much display space, except for the bombers. I've always loved the old birds and they offer lots of opportunity to really dirty them up . My recent creation is a B-25J ,fictious markings , named after my little girl. She is thrilled that's "her airplane". I will post photos later. Currently building alittle nostalga. The reissue of the Monogram P-40B Tigershark, and Spitfire Mk II. That's all I've got to say for now . Thanks for reading my post.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums.  Really cool idea about making up a WWII bird after your daughter.  I've got one daughter, she's only 8 months, but I might end up "borrowing" the idea from you and making one after her...

You'll find the forums full of great info, and quite a few of the posters are regularly published in FSM.  I'm still trying to match forum names to real names, but it's getting there.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]to the forums. You'll find alot of good people and advice here. Nice idea about the B-25 for your daughter. I did the same thing for my son with a P-51D back in 1995. His initials match an actual 8th AF squadron that flew P51's so I used those markings with a fictional tail number that is his birthday.

Sorry for not posting much this past week-n-a half, but I have been around. Been quite busy here lately. You know how it is; work,eat,sleep,work,eatsleep.........

I've also been putting together a family photo share site on Shutterfly. Kind of like putting together a nice model. Sometimes a little tedious, takes a little time. But, the finished product is worth the effort.

I promised pics of my B-25. Take a look.

The inspiration came from the portrait of Emma when she was three. It' got a great nostalgic feel. I thought if I were a pilot back in WWII, with a little girl back home, that porait would be a prime canidate for nose art. I also made the tail code and serial no. relative to her. The last four are her birth date.

I reduced the portrait about 95% .Then printed on decal paper, but the inks kept bleeding when I overcoated. So I printed on photo paper, overcoated (no bleed this time), and then peeled, shaved, scraped, sanded the paper backing until I had a very thin photo. It's also very fragile, anyone giving this a try, handle with care. Then I adheared the photo with leaf adhesive.

By the way, check out the pilots name. Also the shamrock on the nosewheel, a tip of the hat to our Irish heritage. Hope ya'll like.
