Hello
Posted by airedale on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 3:24 PM
I'm a middle aged dad who's been modeling on and off since I was a kid...returned after college...returned after marriage...returned again after my 3 kids were born.
Love WWII Aircraft in 1/32 scale and recently 1/35 scale WWII Armor.
Big fan of WWII history, air shows (especially Thunder Over Michigan) at Willow Run. Once you've seen a
P-47 Fly low over your head...you're hooked.
Try to get to Air museums as often as possible whenever I'm out of town.
I've been a member of FineScale Modeler for 5 of 6 years but have never posted or joined the forum, so I thought I'd give it a try. Love reading the forums, always helpful...the more help, the better.
Wish I had more time to build, but enjoy the time I do have.
I also love finding new techniques and tools for my workbench.
The only downer recently is the slow decline of the hobby shop. More than half of stores around me have closed. Hoping the hobby still hangs on and by evidence of all those on this forum...I think it's doing pretty well.
Anyway, Hello all.

Hiya Mike! And Sign - Welcome [#welcome]back! Always need more aircraft guys!

I know whatcha mean about the P-47. Growing up in California, my Dad took me to the Chino Aishows as a kid. Something about those old warbirds flying sent shivers down my 7 year old spine (and even now)Wink [;)]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums Mike!  I have never been to TOM, but am really hoping to attend next year.  Every year I look at photos from it, and say to myself:

"Why the heck didn't I go to THAT!"

Hey Mike!

Welcome.

Do they still have the airshows at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Mt Clemons? Those were some really neat statics and fly overs. Always had a C5 providing shade for the crowd out on the ramp. I agree with the sentiment on the P-47, we had one stop over at the airport a few years ago. Just hearing it start up and run is thrill.

Hi there, we have 1 airedale 1 boxer.
The airedale is a 5 year old male named lance, boxer is 3 year old female named Lucy.
Airedale is a terrific breed. He's low key and gentle but hi strung around strange dogs. Very smart and strong. He's my boy...since I have all these girls in the house.
Do you have airedales?

Excellent :) they are awesome dogs!

We have a smaller, and uhm, often dumber? Shock [:O] cousin, a Wire Fox terrier. if I had my way, I would have one of each, of a dozen different breeds. Big Smile [:D]

Hey Will,
Not sure if Selfridge has air shows anymore. I haven't been out there in a while. I'm not even sure if that's an active reserve base anymore. Kind of spoiled by the Willow Run.
The museum burned to the ground a few years ago and these air shows have been kind of fundraisers for the new museum which I guess is being built.
Thanks for responding.
