Greetings all. I read a post from 'sharkbait' asking if anyone had built this kit. Yes - I have. It took me 10 years (off & on) & the one crane still isn't done. Instructions are difficult. The kit is but a 'start' as it lacks detail (like stairs to get from one level to the next!), but having worked on an offshore platform for 6 years, I knew what needed to be added (ALOT!) so I could fill in the details. I had to add jib booms, air tuggers, safety stations, the entire sub (mezzanine) deck for waste treatment, boom boats & oil boom spool (to clean up spills -Shh!), rig the main crane correctly, sea trains (storage containers),enteriour plumbing in each module, and on & on... Yes, the handrails need to be individually cut by hand to legnth, and Yes, the kit does not include enough. - I had to send to Revell for more, plus I acquired 2 more kits to build it athuentic. It is a great challenge. I build mostly car models, but if I find a kit that is close to my heart (or intrests), I'll give it a go! - Google 'Nemo's car' (from the movie; league of extraordnary Gentlemen) if you would like to see an example of my work. It should be the first one listed. The post its self is It's on 'Dave's show rod rally' site. Also there is My Linclon Futura, the reworked (monogram) VANDALL II, My Ivory 'Boot hill express', and Chrysler's Turbine car. I also build the cutaway starship ENTERPRISE that turned out awesome! (Yes, I'm also a 'Trekkie' so I hadda cram it full of scratchbuild stuff!) I will post pic's of the platform & Enterprise soon. - MODEL ON!
