I think I've read about Ed's on the forum before. My LHS is Venture in Wheeling (30 minutes drive), or America's Best Train in Itasca about 2 minutes from my office. America's Best Train sounds very similar to Ed's. I'll also use Hobbytown USA mostly for supplies.

I went to Venture Hobbies for the first time just this past year in the summer, after seeing it's ad in FSM magazine. However it's a good one hour drive from my house and that's only when the traffic's good. So a trip to Venture Hobbies is quite a rare occurance.

Other then my LHS, I also use HobbyLobby for pastels and brushes since it's only 5 minutes away. There's also a Hobbytown USA in nearby Orland Park, but it's 30 minutes away, even when traffics good.

Thanks mg.mikael,

I know exactly where Bridgeview is. I worked in Westchester for 18 years and have relatives in Oak Lawn.

What LHS do you frequent?

Thanks

Tom

My LHS is "Ed's Hobby Warehouse" located on Southwest Highway in Palos Hills. He focuses on trains and r/c, but he has a good number of aircraft/ship/armor models with quite a few being discontinued kits that you'll be hard-pressed to find somewhere else. The only problem with his store is that it looks like a hurricane went thru the store, with it being hard to find stuff in the clutter.

Thanks Roger,

My wife is always teasing my son and myself when we're on FSM. She refers to FMS as geeks are us hence the screen name. It's ok with me as she tolerates us taking over the kitchen table and displaying models around the house!

Good morning Namrednef,

My 10 year old likes to purchase and start kits but has a hard time sticking with them. He's more of a free spirit, skate boards, snow boards, and RC cars. In general anything involving things that go fast.

My 15 year old is seriously into the modeling. He's mainly into armour. He has a 1/35 Tamiya Stug IV that's 99% complete and a 1/35 Dragon Marder that he's building for a group build. Both are posted in the armour forum under the screen name "model freaks". His skill far surpasses mine at the same age. I'll take some of the credit, but much of the credit belongs to all of you on the forum!

Thanks

Tom

Good morning Frank,

I live in Algonquin near the Fox River. Algonquin is midway between Chicago and Rockford.

The rest of the family was asleep a couple of hours after I got up. Enjoyed the peace and quiet and put the down a wash on the 109. Hope to do decals today and update my WIP thread today.

Enjoy the day.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums, model geek!!! Hope to see you around the forums!

You live in the north-west suburbs of Chicago, I live in the south-west surburbs of Chicago, what a coincidence. Anyways it nice to see a fellow modeler from Illinois(the land of corruption).Wink [;)]

Re-introduction
Posted by model geek on Saturday, January 3, 2009 11:52 PM

Hi all,

This is a re-introduction. I have been sharing the screen name "model freaks" with my sons since we joined the forum (about a year ago). I finally took the time to create my own screen name. My main interest is 1/48 aircraft and I have an ongoing post in the aircraft forum about my ME-109-G6.

Thanks to all who participate in the forum. Your posts, replies, and suggestions are an invaluable resourse.

Look forward to many happy years on the forumSmile [:)]
