Hi Everyone,

I new to this hobby and this site. I had build few cars back in high school but that was it. I'm 31 now and I recentaly purchased a kit (Revell 1:32 Spitfire MK.22/24) at a RC swat meet (my other hobby) and I'm hooked. I really enjoyed building this plane. I later realized that this might of been too hard of a plane to build but you gotta start somewhere. My model dosen't look as realistic as most do here, but I allready learned few tricks and hints.

I was wondering if you need an air-brush to get great results. I only use paint brushes and noticed that I leave alot of inperfections behind. And what type of paints do most use?  I ended up getting bunch of Humbrol paints and notice that they take forever to dry.

I very interested in plane models since I fly Radio Control ones, but I also found Armor and cars very interesting and would love to build them in the future. My next model will be Airfix 1:72 Avro Lancaster B MKI/III which I got from my RC buddy.

I'm glad I found this hobby and look forward to learning from all of you. In the feature I'd love to build a display cabinet and show off some of my work, and share some with all of you.

Regards Jerry

I have the same Spitfire kit, but have not built it as of yet.  Also have a 1/72 Lanc (Hasegawa) in the "to-do" stack.  Sounds like we share the same interests. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey Aceman! and welcome!  As far as your questions on the tools like airbrush vs paintbrush? Just depends on you.  Once you master the airbrush you can achieve great things but the paint brush is always there for the tough stuff!  An old fashioned rattle can can give you a good smooth finish as well and the paints you use for either brush or AB can make a diff. A whole lotta variables in a whole wonderful world!

This is the place to ask questions and watch and learn! I can't tell you how much I have improved just by seeing how others do stuff!

Goodluck and Happy modeling.  Got anything else in mind after that Spitfire? Mischief [:-,]

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Aceman. As I've said on other posts this forum is one of the best sources for learning new methods and techniques. Post any questions no matter how basic any you'll be amazed at the number of answers or links to other sites you'll get.

Another way to find an answer to a particular question is to go to the appropriate forum and do a search using a keyword from your question. Chances are it's been asked and answered many times.

As for an airbrush I highly recommend getting one. Hopefully you have a local hobby shop with a knowledgable staff that can help you choose an airbrush for beginners. And of course there's always the forum members!

Hope this helps.
