20 year hiatus
Posted by bwuest on Sunday, February 15, 2009 7:09 AM
I'm 46 years old and built 100 or so models beginning at age 6 but stopped building models in 1989 after 20 or so WWII Aircraft models were destroyed in a move by the Army. I've been on active duty since 1986 and was so disheartened after years of work was wiped out. I pretty much swore off modeling until I was done moving with the military. However, lately I've had the bug so bad I just couldn't ignore it anymore. The bug really hit one day when my 7 year old youngest Son said "Dad, I'd really like to make a pirate ship." I'm a pretty accomplished woodworker but ships are a way beyond my skill so I looked at some models. I ordered Revells Caribbean Pirate ship and also a DDG USS Cushing from Dragon Models while I was at it. My Brother served on DDG Caron which is the same class destroyer as the Cushing so I'll modify it and then give to him. I've still got all my old tools and airbrushes so all I needed was a model to get started again. I'll post some pictures when they're finished. I'll carefully pack the models myself when I have to move next.

Welcome to the forums, and back to the hobby.  Its horrible to hear about your kits, I know the feeling.  I have had a few kits break during travel (just between my bench and where I take photos... I have had a kit fall, break, and the piece that broke off compeltly disapear leaving it unfixable...  Its a horrible feeling.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.  If you go to build any armor, check out some of Doog's stuff, if your gona do some Aircraft, check out ChuckW's Helldiver build
