Greetings after 30 years!
Posted by cuzimthedad on Saturday, March 14, 2009 4:18 PM

Yup, after 32 years, raising a daughter, going to war, and all the normal ups and downs of life I have come back to the hobby. My name is Dan Parker, I live in Sonoma, CA in the midst of wine country, and am 53 yrs old. My last model was the Constitution which I had almost completed, but with a couple of moves, I lost parts and then the daughter came and it was never finished. I am an amatuer astronomer and with all the rain this past month I realized I should have a back up hobby to keep me busy on those wet days and remembered a model of the USS Enterprise (Star Trek) I had stashed away. Bingo! Back in the hobby with a vengeance. I have several kits I will be building when I am finished getting back up to speed with tools, brushes (air and stick), paints, and reading some beginners modeling books to freshen up. My favorites are WW2 American aircraft and ships with my fave ship being the Cleveland class light cruisers. I have a B-17G I want to build and hope to model it after the Collings Foundation B-17 "Nine O Nine". I had the opportunity to take a ride on her last year and it was a blast! I eventually want to build the Constitution again to completion having taken the tour of the ship in Boston years ago right before leaving for Desert Storm.

I currently have several kits in the closet waiting to be built...B-25, F4U Corsair, P-38J, and PT109.

Well that's about it. Oh yeah, cuzimthedad came from the daughter when searching for a username years ago. It stuck and I've used it for all my forum and seller names since. Just use Dan or dad in posts though as those are much shorter!

 Great to be here folks!

Welcome Dad! To the Forums and back to the Hobby.

I'm an infrequent poster here, but I browse these Forums pretty regularly. I'm also in Southern California (Los Angele)and a member of Orange County IPMS. Hopefully Sonoma is close enough for you to attend an Orangecon someday so we can meet.

Anyway, have fun and keep building and posting!
