Kinda new here...
So I been here for a couple weeks, shoulda posted sooner I suppose. I have been modeling since I was 9, and now I am 32. I joined the Air Force at 18, following my father in choice of service. Spent my first 3 years years in Aviano Italy, next 6 in Panama City, FL., and when my fathers diabetes started getting down on him, transfered to the Oregon ANG. I have been an ammotroop the whole time, and despite my initial reluctance toward the career field, I have to say I love my job. 13 years of uncle sam paying me to play with really big fireworks
Anyhow, my main area of interest is aircraft, WWII and Century series to modern day, though I have built all kinds of subjects over the years. Leaving home, my little brother used my old collection for batting practice. 3 years in Italy, about a dozen models, and the Italian movers, the ones who told me no worries, they know their job, managed to crush all of them in packing. In florida I really stepped up my game, and turned out some subjects I was pretty proud of, and upon moving here, I turned them all over to a 9 year old son of a friend of mine. His father never being present, and my own son a couple years younger but living with my ex far away, we were good friends, so when I left, I left him all the planes we built together, all my deep sea fishing gear, and all the video games I bought for us to play while his mom and my wife were working and hanging out. I think he will turn out to be a modeler, as well as my oldest son, and now my youngest, only 3, is all about the jets, lol. Its one of the things my father gave to me, and I am happy to pass it on.
My big goal in this hobby at this point is to complete something I started several years back. My father, having served 27 years both active and guard as an SP spent MANY nights away from home, counting rivets and taking a ton of pride in doing so. Everyday he put on his uniform, and in my time service, not many SP's see it the same, but every day, he was the proudest SP I have ever met. I want badly to build A/C from each unit he served for, 8 in total. 4 F-106's, 1 F-101, 1 F-4D, 1 f-16 Block 25, and 1 F-15C. I have kits for all, although I have been a bit frustrated thus far by my performance on the 106's and the 101. I will likely redo a couple of those. Happily, the others have been produced by several companies and excellent results have been almost thoughtless.
As of late, getting back into the hobby after being out of it for a few years, I have taken a ton of pleasure in building models for my young sons ceiling. Like I mentioned, he is now enthralled in the jets, so it fuels my building fire =)
Anyhow, thats where I am at. I joined here to gain as much knowldge as I can, to improve my skill, and to share anything and everything I can.
