G'day everyone
Posted by Antipodean Andy on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 4:33 PM

Hi guys

I was last on here about two years ago when I was planning to get back into building.  Unfortunately we've moved three times since then (work) and I was retrenched earlier this year (going for a medical for a new job today ... fingers crossed) so it kinda fell by the wayside as you might imagine.

I research a fair bit of WW2 RAF and Commonwealth air force aircrew so keep coming across links to featured models and drooling over them.  While my skill level would be lucky to build a quality OOB at the moment, I'm really keen for the creative outlet and 'community' that comes with it.

Popped back on here last night and was, not surprisingly, inspired by all of your projects.  My last attempt to get back into modelling got as far as buying tools etc but my little stock of unbuilt kits was never threatened.  No idea where that stuff is now but the garage is looking good for a work space.  Might win some points from the better half as well as I'll have to clean the garage up first!

Looking forward to buying my first airbrush!  Are there any 'getting started' or 'returning to the hobby' threads on here?

Cheers

Andy

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums Andy!  I don't know of any specific areas on getting back into the hobby, but each sub-forum has a lot of great advice there.  Some questions like "a good first airbrush" or "best paints to use" are ones that are asked quite frequently, so you should have no trouble at all finding those answers.  Also, the "search" feature is your friend. Smile [:)]

Thanks Frank, you really can find everything on here, it's great.  I actually went to two department stores to find a Hasegawa kit to start on.  Well, they used to sell them.  Not a kit or anything related to be found and the local hobby shop leaves a bit to be desired.

Hi Andy,

Welcome to the FSM forums. It's good to see another Aussie here. (There's actually a fair crowd of us here.) You won't find anything in the department stores here these days - there hasn't been for quite a few years now. Dead [xx(]

The good news, however, is that if you get up to Newcastle at all, you have Frontline Hobbies, which is pretty huge by local standards. Check it out next time you;re up that way.

Cheers Phil.  Not sure when I'll get up there but I'll keep it in mind.

Hoping to start off with a 1/48 Hasegawa Hurricane Mk IIc (Trop).

Oops...

Sorry Andy, I seem to have misread your location. I read it as "West Wyoming" which is not far from Newcastle. West Wyalong is considerably further than that.... Black Eye [B)]
