First Model Ever....
Posted by 05Warrior on Friday, January 8, 2010 10:09 AM

Okay, I have never built a model in my life. On two separate occasions, I attempted to build a mustang kit, but did not get very far with it. But I want to get some models built. I know nothing about building models, but I want to learn more. I want to assemble LAV kits, as I was an LAV mechanic in the Marine Corps. I want to display the 8 different variants alongside my awards that I received from the Marine Corps. After I get those done, I may continue to build, as it is very interesting to me. I am working on getting pictures uploaded to post of my first model. Compared to what I have seen on these forums, my model is not that good at all. But I do want to get better. Anyways, I figured I would introduce myself and I will be posting pics soon!

Everybody starts somewhere - so congratulations for getting back into it and posting pix of your work. Hard to say from the photos you've got here, but one thing you can do to take it to the next level is check out some of the tutorials throughout the forum on weathering. On the photos: Direct sunlight is not flattering to anyone's work. If you can shoot on an overcast day or in some partial shade, the shadows and glare won't be so harsh and will give a better impression of what that LAV really looks like.

Congrats on your first model-build. We all start somewhere and it looks like you have a great foundation upon which to build.

Another photo trick to consider is making a 5-sided light-box in which to shoot your pics. Basically it's a box with the panels cut out and replaced with transluscent mylar to allow the light through but reduce the glare.

Thank you for the welcome. I didn't even think about the lighting affecting the way the picture looks. I am not a photographer. Smile Those are some really great ideas about shooting pictures though. I will definitely be trying them on my next model. Off to build my second one now......
