I used to build models when I was a kid (I stopped when I was 18). Last year, while working on someone's house (I am in home remodeling), they were throwing away a 1/25 Tamiya Tiger tank. I grabbed and after confirming that all the parts were there, I built it. This re-kindled my love for model building.
After the tank was done my roommate's son was paralyzed in an accident and I thought I could teach him to start using his hands by showing him model building and I started building a Dragon P-51 while he built a car. It (building models) did'nt last long for him but I finished the Mustang anyway. Now I am building a Revell B-17G for myself.
It's funny that my modeling skills have improved over the years even though I had'nt built one in 20+ years. I did'nt have the patience when I was 18 that I have now (I turn 40 later this month). I have no problem now painting a piece and then waiting a day or two before attaching it.
A few things I want to learn about as I move deeper into this;
Weathering.
Airbrushing.
Does any one have any good starting points for someone just starting to look at these things?
A couple of things I have learned since I have gotten back into this hobby;
Dragon 1/32 P-51 model - Directions are WRONG. If anyone want's more details, I will scan them and point out the problems I had. I don't think I could explain it.
Revell 1/48 B-17G model - I am missing a piece. I have ordered it and am eagerly awaiting it, otherwise it is a great model kit. p.s. I think Revell should get whatever injection molding machine that Dragon uses, there is some extra plastic on some parts that Dragon did not have.
Thanks,
Eric
