Too enthusiastic? Can't be too enthusiastic. Just shows you're one of oursBig Smile

On the BTR, there probably should be a turret on top of the hull. Since it's not there, you really have to be creative. I wouldn't spend money on Tamiya accessories, they don't really fit Kitech, it's like killing an An-2 with a Sidewinder (oops!)

For grabhandles you'd be best off with a good compromise between the calculations (size of the real thing<->scale) and what you can conveniently find in the scrap (for example try telephone wire). I used a wire that snugly fit in a hole drilled with a 0,5 mm drill. The grabhandles are faster to make this way (when you consider cleaning up the cast ones), look better and are sturdier. Win-win.

I wish you good luck with your projects, and I'd like to see some pictures at last, have a nice weekend

Hi, thanks for the welcome all.

Hey Pawel, I know what you mean. It has been both fun and a struggle sometimes working with Kitech. The kits seem to have lots of extras you don't need, and missing bits you do need! Thanks for the links your review was really helpful.

With my BTR i've removed the mount for the AT weapon since they didn't really have them, I've filled the space and wondering what to do in it's place. Camouflage netting is an option or I could buy a Tamiya accessory pack perhaps? Wheels aren't too bad on the BTR, needs some hub caps!

I noticed you have used metal wire for the grab bars, since I broke mine taking them off the sprue I was wondering what size you used?

I did enjoy the T-90, I had problems with the Infra-red jammers on the front of the turret and am still looking for a way to complete the NSV since there is not automated parts for it or ammo box/feed.

Still have a Kitech M3 Bradley, Challenger and Abrams to build! I do have a Tamiya 1/48 Sherman (and PE kits) and a T34/76 models that I purchased from ebay. They have diecast chassis, not sure if that makes much of a difference! Also have a Tamiya T-62, Academy warrior and an assortment of Dragon and Zvesda? Russian modern armour. I think I might have been a bit too enthusiastic with my ebay purchases!

I received my Heller 1:400 Tirpirtz and sent it straight back because of missing bits, but repurchased a Airfix reissue from ebay brand new at half price. My Lindberg Bismarck also arrived! So many models so little time!

Howdy LMN118!

Starting to model with the Kitech kits is a bit risky. They have their issues. I finished their LAV-AT last year and you can even read the review and WIP here and here.

Better still, I have all the tires from my kit and they would fit your machine with no mods (don't ask me how it's possible - KITECH!). So if you are interested, please PM me and maybe we'll work something out.

I built the T-90 a long time ago, and if you don't go to picky on it, it's fun to build.

Now it would be better for you to try CHEAP Tamiya kit (if you can find any cheap), at least their fit is impeccable. Other than that, welcome to the forums and keep them messages coming

Welcome Sign LMN118!

Sounds like you are off & running! Build a few of the simpler, low parts kits to rev up your skills before tackling the more complex offerings. People on the forum are helpful and don't be shy asking questions, if your thread gets bumped off the main page in a few days 'bump' it back up if no replies.

Hi peeps

Hi, this is my first modelling forum registration. I've just started modelling again, when I was much younger my experience was mainly with Games Workshop war gaming, although I did have a collection of Halcyon Aliens models. Nothing really specialised so just trying a bit of everything. At the moment I've got 6 models on the go. Listed below: 1:72 CC Lee Tiger Mk1 and M1A1 1:48 Kitech BTR-80 AT5 and T-90 MBT Small scale (1:700 I think) Hobbyboss SSN Greenville and a 1:900 USS New Jersey also from Kitech. The reason I've got so many on the go is with the AFV's I wanted to paint the internal surfaces and tracks before finishing assembly but have only just ordered an airbrush and looking at paints! It's been an experience building the kitech kits, and I should have probably tried something a bit easier on the stress levels! The BTR came missing a tyre so it's been relegated to a practice tank the others are ok (ish). I do have a Lindberg 1:350 Bismarck (for practice at this scale) and a Heller/Airfix 1:400 Tirpitz on the way.
