Welcome to the forum.

The thing that really worries me about hobby shops closing is the lost of presence for the future generations to get engaged in this great hobby.

Maybe expositions and giving away models to the younger persons will have some impact.

Welcome Sign to the forums, sad about the LHS closing.  As Hawkeye said, 2 closing for every one opening- YIKES!

That's good to know, because I'm not aware of any shops in Reno that carry those lines.

It's true that the heirs weren't interested in continuing the business, and they couldn't find a buyer.

Talking to a couple of the workers, both of them said that young kids weren't into modeling like those of us who are older than 55.  And with all the old kits available online, perhaps the model shop as we know it is obsolete.

I still wonder where I'm going to find paints after they close, though.

Welcome back billdrummer!

Where I'm from there never was one to start with. The nearest one, about 70 miles away closed about 8 years ago due to the owners retirment, only to open up a couple of months ago with new owner in the same shop.

Welcome!

The industry is seeing two hobby shops closing for each new one opening. Do the math.

Welcome to the Forums Welcome Sign.  I'm afraid there are far too many stories of Hobby Shop closings.

Hi and hobby shop closing

Hi, I'm billddrummer from Reno, NV, and am returning to modeling after a long hiatus, that included a foreclosure, a repossessed car, a divorce, three moves and two hospitalizations for various things.

I learned today that High Sierra Hobbies, the purest 'true' hobby store in Reno, is going out of business after more than 30 years serving northern NV.  Right now, all their railroad items are 20% off, plastic model kits are 30% off.  No accessories are on sale yet, but by month end there should be some good deals on airbrushes, paints, knives and glue.

Anyone who has similar stories about hobby shops going belly up are welcome to share.
