Back in the saddle, again
Posted by rm3aoe284 on Monday, October 11, 2010 9:32 PM

Hello.

I have deciced to get back into this great hobby again after a very long break (over 35 years). Have spent a few hours looking around on these forums and decided to introduce myself.

Like most kids, I liked the hot cars, so that is what I did before. Now that I an adult, though, my interests lie elsewhere. I love WW II history and am a US Navy vet. So mostly, my interests run to Navy ships and aircraft. Looking forward to spending some long hours on this hobby again and making some new friends.

Don't feel bad...I had to take a break from '36 to '48...after I was released from captivity it took awhile to want to build military models, but once I started I was hooked again...

Welcome, RM.

You sound like me, even down to having the same initials.  LOL.  Like you, I recently came back to the hobby after over 30 years away.  I was blown away by how much the hobby has changed, after market PE and resin kits, etc..  I'm still feverishly learning new techniques and finding out about new tools.  You might also want to check out ModelWarships.com.  A great site dedicated to ship modeling, mostly WW 2 naval, and a fantastic forum board.

Welcome back and have fun.

Bob

Just launched:  Revell 1/249 U.S.S. Buckley w/ after market PE and guns.

Building: Italieri 1/35 P.T. 596 w/ Lion Roar PE.

Welcome back to the hobby. I cameback last year and am thorougly enjoying it. Lots of history to research and lots of techniques to learn. There is so much to do. I must admit that after looking at the quality of modeling being done now it can be a bit intimidating - but then learning is a lot of fun as well.

Good luck.
