Newbe build Italeri S Boot
Posted by jayjaytee on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 11:44 AM

Hi everyone,  I'm John and I fairly recently re-discovered modelling.  My interests are many and varied - everything from scratch-built railway buildings to R/C Racing cars.

At present I'm having a go at the Italeri S Boot.  I bought the kit nearly 18 months ago and successfully concealed it in the loft from the prying eyes of "She Who Must be Obeyed".  Unfortunately it was discovered this Christmas - however, I was able to offer the time honoured "Oh that old thing? ..... had it for ages!"

I have looked with great admiration at the pictures of other members S Boots and can only hope to emulate some of the skills shown.

To get me started however, can anyone please help with a warped foredeck?  The Port side is warped and despite gentle heating with a heat gun, the fit is completely unacceptable.  Any suggestions?  Thank you in anticipation.

Only other thing I can suggest for a warped part is a dunking in very hot water.  Not sure if this will work, especially if the heat gun didn't help.

Hi John,,, welcome!

Try using two clamps to straighten the deck. Once you get it clamped into the corrected position, GENTLY hit it with the heat gun or hair dryer in short stints....    unclamp and check periodically.

Good luck with it

Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for your suggestion Bill however, the very nice people who distribute the model in the UK have kindly offered me a replacement part - it should arrive this week sometime.

I was pleasantly surprised at the  "no hassle, no problem" their customer services showed.  I couldn't recommend them highly enough.

If anyone experiences similar problems, please give me a shout - I have their telephone number!

Best wishes.

The build is coming along quite well and so far I'm pleased with the results.

I find that it helps to make the assembly into a  series of mini kits;  this seems to help me with focus.

Just on that point, I am quite comfortable with weathering - both enamel and with chalk but does anyone know how to make the dents and dinges that Italeri have managed on the armament in their reference manual?

Any pointers to a relevant link would be very much appreciated.

Cheers
