Creating something from nothing
Posted by Ceige on Sunday, June 26, 2011 3:54 AM

Hello

I'm just wondering if there's other people who like to take parts from everyday use such as part of a discarded vacuum cleanner  body and turn it into a space ship using assorted parts from different kits?  This is just one example.  You can use many different objects but, there's something to creating an individual piece.  The painting/detail is like any other piece you make from a kit but your imagination can run rampant plus people tend to really scrutinize it.  That's pretty cool having someone tell you that it belongs in Hollywood.  I'd like to hear from others if you're out there and learn what you've used.  I'd also like to find a real good model of the submarine Natilus from the Disney movie 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.  All i've been able to find is ones made of wood.  Anyone know where I can get one?  Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

First off Ceige welcome to the forums!

Regarding the first question I have seen a clever space ship built out of a old computer mouse. Another modeler made a 1946+ German rail canon out of one as well.

Far as the 20 000 Leagues submarine check out Moebius models, I believe they released that in plastic.

Ok I may be wrong there. A recent article in FSM had the submarine featured in a detailing article, thinking it was a resin kit though...Hmm

wellcome here Welcome Sign

heres have a good number of people that used to scratch or apply kitbashing. Probably better section to see it is on scratchbuild and sci-fi section, but even on others sections you can easily found lots ofmaterials used to detail kit.

None about the wood nautilus Sad

see on the forum!

Welcome. Your might consider Monsters in Motion’s Nautilus WITH SQUID. http://www.monstersinmotion.com/cart/sci-fi-as-in-science-fiction-item-list-k-o-c-9_187/nautilus-with-squid-mini-model-hobby-kit-p-4878

Thanks everyone.  I'll check out your suggestions and also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees a piece of "something" be it plastic or another material and visualizes it being part of something bigger.  Modeling allows creativity and doesn't allow your mind to get stale.  Again, "Thanks"
