Creating something from nothing

Thanks everyone.  I'll check out your suggestions and also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees a piece of "something" be it plastic or another material and visualizes it being part of something bigger.  Modeling allows creativity and doesn't allow your mind to get stale.  Again, "Thanks"

Welcome to the forum , as far as the use of off the wall things for models i too am a scavenger of any thing plastic , i got boxes full of stuff that i think i will use old c.d. cases, vhs tape cases, cups the back of an old tv  computer keyboard ... the minute i pick it up the mind is working on how and where to use that piece.. you cant have too much plastic  hanging around...

heres have a good number of people that used to scratch or apply kitbashing. Probably better section to see it is on scratchbuild and sci-fi section, but even on others sections you can easily found lots ofmaterials used to detail kit.

First off Ceige welcome to the forums!

Regarding the first question I have seen a clever space ship built out of a old computer mouse. Another modeler made a 1946+ German rail canon out of one as well.

Far as the 20 000 Leagues submarine check out Moebius models, I believe they released that in plastic.

Ok I may be wrong there. A recent article in FSM had the submarine featured in a detailing article, thinking it was a resin kit though...
