I've wondered over the last couple months why no one here has any profile information. Its nice to know the posters better through their bio..... kinda helps interpret the information. Now I know  Big Smile

It's not about how fast you get there or even where you're going. It's whether you enjoy the ride.

You're right, of course, Gerald.  Kind of scary, isn't it?

Cadet Chuck

And with the ID theft and stuff rampant these days, I post as little personal info as possible on the internet

Even those people who don't even own a computer and never go online anywhere and at anytime are subject to identity theft as everything these days is on computers and is share globally through the internet.

If you attend a public meeting and sign in as an attendee, such as at your local gov't meetings, that becomes public record. Your property tax and ownership records are public and can be found online. Drivers license and any court related records are also available, many which already provide access to your birth information.

If you own a phone and have a published and even an unpublished number information about is accessible.

Identity theft is more easily done by you responding to phishing emails and malware that you inadvertently download. Thieves still pick your trash and paper recycles...not necessarily at your curb but at facilities which they have unfettered access. When I worked for a national warehousing company we often were contracted to store bales of scrap paper...some of the documents we found which had everything anyone wanted to know about someone was alarming. But people throw away such tidbits of information without a second thought instead of properly shredding them.

Even if you don't post your location, with a little simple and free computer sleuthing your IP address can be tracked right to your doorstep. Digital fingerprints is what they call it....there is always an electronic trail!

Hmmm.......yeah, I just checked my profile and I distinctly remember entering some personal info, including a brief bio. None of that seems to be available now. Hmm

You know--you guys are right--and I"m miffed! Super Angry I just took a look at my profile and noticed that the option to enter something about yourself is gone! WTF?!?!

So I apologize for this thread being misleading then! I write it after looking at someone's profile recently and noticing the lack of any info on them. But having entered my own bio months ago, I didn't even check to see, or think that it wouldn't have been an option.

I don't know what happened to that, but boy is that a bummer to have lost that option!

Can any of the moderators five a response here to where that option went?

PS--Dave--message received, thank you; I will get back to you in time! Big Smile

Perhaps the forum software was altered due to the same ID theft concerns mentioned by Cadet Chuck.

Good idea, but I don't see where to enter much profile info here.  And with the ID theft and stuff rampant these days, I post as little personal info as possible on the internet, which is a shame, as I would like to share with honest people like you guys of similar interests.  So, about all I care to publish is:  My name is Chuck, I live in Lowell City, Mars, and am an old geezer who has been modeling for over 50 years.  And I enjoy the forums very much!

Agree with your sentiments Doog, but doesn't look like profiles have the option to add too much personal info.

I am having the same issue...  I KNOW I filled out some personal biography profile info ages ago, but I have not been able to find any of it.....    it's been months.

I am also having a problem viewing "favorites"....  when you go onto your public profile it will list favorite posts...  it also has a hot link that states "view all" - - - If I click view all, I get a bounceback standard windows error page.

Haven't figured either out as of yet.

Enjoy the ride!

 Bish:

Just to echo a bit of what doogs said, i think its really helpful to have a location on your profile.

I actually post my Chicago location info ( weather updates, hobby store visit updates, Manny and Bigfoot sightings  ) often enough that anyone reading my posts will know where I live.

Seems unnecessary for me to place it in my profile.

Agreed, but as a general rule, i think it would help.

I am the same. When i click on somones name, all i get is there recent posts. The only info i see is whats under the Avatar.

Just to echo a bit of what doogs said, i think its really helpful to have a location on your profile. Doesn't have to be to specific, just country will do.just helps when someone is asking where they can get certain things, and other questions where a location is useful.

Actually I cannot see anyone's info on their profile, including yours doog, they all appear blank.

That's definitely strange, but it has to have something to do with the way you have your "account preferences" or "site preferences" set. I would try going into your profile page and seeing if you can find the settings page and try changing some parameters?

Hellooooooooooooooo, Aaron, can you help clarify this problem?Whistling[wh

Having that info is nice, especially where you are from/at. This helps us old timers know how to answer a question better when geographical location is a factor...such as buy this at this place. No sense in providing you with a local source if you live clear on the otherside of the pond. We can delve into our references and find a source possibly that is in your neighborhood.country.

Maybe the moderators can answer the questions about specific visibility of the profiles on the forum as well as how much info options are available to subscribers/nonsubscribers.

Hi all you new members!

Welcome to the forums!

I would like to urge you all, PLEASE, take a few minutes and fill out your profiles--tell us about yourselves! Who are you? What is your name? An anonymous screen name is not enough--it's so much more inviting and personal to know someone's first name, not just to address them by "modelerXXX45" or something similar! I feel that it promotes a feeling of civility and community interaction to know at least that much about you.

It's also nice to know a little about you--where ya from? What do you do? And how old are you ad how long have you been modeling? Those last points can be important to know, because it lets people look at that and know if maybe you're a younger modeler, or a more-experienced modeler--it's helpful to know that when you're commenting on someone's models and/or skill level.

Many members never bother to look in this forum--we al have our favorite forums "bookmarked" and regularly check in to those as a matter of habit. However, you will notice that by clicking on someone's screen name, you can bring up their profile and get to know them by reading their profile page. Too many people have absolutely nothing written there and are just "blank pages". It always is a bummer to see someone who has nothing there at all.

Please take the time to join and share yourself with this community of great modelers. FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE PAGES PLEASE!? Smile
