Bump

I thought since I was only here a short time last year before life swept me off, I'd bump this to repeat my introduction. It's nice to be back.

Thanks Herc! That makes me feel pretty good. I don't remember when I found out that guys weather with an airbrush but it was after I started learning with a brush. I do some scrubbing with a drybrush in floquil railroad colors and some washes. Sometimes they're wet over set paint and sometimes over tacky paint. I did get a Testors Aztek 470 set and a compressor a couple years ago but I want to wait until I have more time to learn to use it before I go messing up my models. Heck, I just found you guys. There's a lot to learn!

Thanks! When I get ready to tackle my airbrush I might have some questions. I've already found good info I haven't had a chance to practice YET.

Here's my Marder III I mentioned. Ignore the hull mount MG. I've broken it twice. I'll fix it again when I get ready.

Holy cow...I was impressed before... but not using an air brush and getting all that tonal variations is very impressive. GREAT JOB.

Thanks TM. I need to get some decal set since I decided to move on with this hobby.

I believe on the Grille I painted and sealed the base, dappled some black and grey on that then overpainted with white. Then I used laquer thinner to drag it all down and together. Its not so bad for a guy with no tutoring. I'm picking up things now that could have helped then, like dishsoap in a wash. Who'da thot?

Hey Joe. That's a sizable collection you've done. Kudos. I'm actually running out of bookcase room for my builds. I like your shelving idea. I might have tio look into .

I like that whitewash on the Grille. Turned out well. I built the same Marder III, except did mine in the tr-color camo. There are some helpful hints here for decalling.

Look forward to you finishing that RSO. Please post some updates in the armor forum.

Thanks guys. Yes I dabble in aircraft too but they're a bit more challenging to a guy with a brush and they're not so easy to keep in the same scale. I've been thinking about maybe going to 1/72 across the board on those. Back when my JU52 was still in one piece I like to never found a good place to keep it.

As for the dogs, they're a friendly and well socialized bunch. Just stay away from their pen and don't scare the little guy!

Man those are some scarry looking dogs.Whistling

Those dogs aren't scary-looking, they're smiling! Besides, I'm more woried about the one inside the cab that knows how to drive, and refuses to make eye contact with us!

Welcome aboard - I see you dabble in winged things as well. Yes

Thanks. You can probably tell when I started I just used any old spraypaint from the local store. Some day I'll go back and weather them all to cover that up.

The dogs. Up to something? Yep, no good as always. Its hard to keep my school, work, person effects and dogs seperated in one truck. They always seem to find something I've forgotten to put out of reach  ;)

I enjoy looking at pictures of model collections.  Thanks for sharing.  Your dogs are awesome, but they have done something.  They are trying way too hard to look innocent .  What a great picture.

Howdy Joe,

Welcome to the forum.

Look forward to some pics of your WIPs and builds - sounds like you've already got a pretty good collection and on your way to building a decent stash too!

Chris.

I HAD a box full of spare parts but two months ago I tossed them. Isn't that how it's supposed to go, hold onto 'em for 7 years and then need them a month after I thow them away?

Thanks for the effort. This kit is an old Italeri "Mark IV Special" but I could make anything work.

Hello Joe and welcome to the forums!! Welcome Sign

I know Tristar made a suspension set but it seems it has long since been discontinued and I had no luck searching my "usual" online stores for it. If you go to any model shows, Im sure you could probably find one there. If I had an extra one I would be glad to send it your way. By the way, what kit do you need th spring for??

Hello all
Posted by novembergray on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 8:32 PM

Hi! My name is Joe. I've been referencing this forum for the last month or so as I've gotten back into my hobby of building WWII armor and land vehicles. This is after an 8 year hiatus. I actually began doing armor back in 2001 when I was out from work with an injury. Before that I had built a few models as a kid back in the early '80s and loved it, but didn't really have the money to keep at it.

Anyway, back in about '04 I got overwhelmed as I was learning to weather my vehicles, so I gave it a break, but I've kept it in mind since then, bought an airbrush set and held onto my hoard and kept space for the 40 or so weapons of destruction I had already built. Recently I moved and just laying hands on all those things (ie - paints, built kits, unbuilt kits, reference books, etc, etc) stirred my interests once again.

I grabbed a kit I had bought back in about '04, a Revell/Italeri RSO and started to work on it. While I was waiting for parts to dry I started a Tamiya PAK 40 for it to tow. When I got hung up on weathering I picked up an old Italeri Marder III H I had started back in '04. I can't tell you how many times I've thought about tossing the darned thing in the trash over the last few years. Funny. Now its coming along pretty well.

Soooooooooooooooo, long story - short, I'm back in it. I've already bought 5 models, a few aftermarkets and a couple hundred dollars worth of supplies. Lately, (being a slow time of year for my work) I've been sitting outside, enjoying these beautiful late summer days and working on my models.

That's about it, with the exception of my first question - Does anyone know where I can buy a set of leaf springs for a panzer IV? I'm missing 1 spring from a kit and don't want to have to buy a whole new model. Thanks!

Joe
