Starting Again
Posted by DJinFlorida on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 8:16 PM

Hello,

I have been modeling off and on for about 32 years.  I lost several of my creations in a move a couple of years ago.  Over the years I have worked on cars, planes, and sci-fi.  Right now I seem to be in a plane mood, as I found a Corsair that I started and I just ordered a P-40B, P-51, and an Avenger, all in 1/48.  I also ordered a 1/72 P-40 for my 7 year old daughter.

I am looking forward to getting back into modeling.  I helped my daughter with a 1/72 Hellcat while I built an 1/48 F-14 a couple of years ago.  She had a blast.  I hope she has as much fun with the P-40.

Welcome aboard DJ.  I have a 5 year old girl that I hope to inspire soon.  Unfortunately, she only wants to paint everything pink right now, to include my model desk.

@lawdog: It took some convincing, but I was able to get her to paint the Hellcat according to the instructions.  I'm still amazed at how good of a job she did at 5.  The only thing that I did was spray the exterior.  She did all of the assembly, hand painting, and masking.

@talentless: I had a cat years ago that would hop up on my modeling table and just sit and watch.  I could leave it out all night and he would not bother any of it.  He even helped me defeat the evil carpet monster!  I miss that cat.  None of the other cats that I've had could be trusted like that.

OK, I'm going to try to post some pics.

Here is the F-14D that was my last build.

And here is my daughter's first model, the Hellcat.

And this is a Yamaha YZF that did not survive the last move.  I gave it a custom paint job.  Not too bad for just using rattle cans.

As you can see, I'm not a rivet counter.  I do the best I can with what I have, and try to do better than I did on the last one.
