Glad to be here
Posted by Justin Kirksey on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 6:24 PM

Hi all,

I've been sitting with one toe in the modelling waters and finally decided to just jump headlong into it.  I modelled a lot as a kid, mostly the cheapy snap-together kits.  Then life got in the way and I got away from it for many years.  Now, almost 20 yrs later, I'm back and itching to get back into it.

After moving around the last 12 yrs I've finally landed in sunny Las Vegas and recently bought a house since I'm going to be here for a good long while.  After a few coats of paint and weekend DIY jobs the hobby room is now at the top of the list.  It's painted, the desk should go together this weekend.  Bookshelves for reference books and whatnot are on the to-do list for the weekend as well as hanging military keepsakes, pictures and the like.  Once it's set up I plan on posting pictures, if for no other reason than getting personal experiences on best organization practices.

I'm a history major which has only fed the desire to get back into the craft.  My main area of interest is in 1/48 and 1/32 WWII Allied and Axis aircraft with some armor, ships, and figures tossed in for variety.

I will be in the forums a lot looking for tips, advice, preferences in equipment/paints/kits.  I look forward to getting to know all the varied but like-minded people.

Happy Building!

Thanks Mike!  I'm really looking forward to actually being able to get started.  Been collecting supplies for a few months and once I decide which airbrush (between two different ones) I should be ready to give it a go.

Jim there will be pictures hopefully after the weekend once I get a little more work done to it.  I've had a lot of fun just in getting my "tinker" room up and running, can't wait to actually start on some models!

Lol Tom, those words are more than accurate in many different aspects, not just modelling.  Eventually I'd like to be able to "correct" inaccuracies by scratchbuilding items, but that is down the road after I get the hang of "basic" modelling again!

I took most of my classes in U.S. history, but there were certain required classes that landed me in Italian history, Chinese history, generic European history.

Welcome to the forum and back to the hobby Justin. I just got back into the hobby again after a 6 year break from it. Before that it was about 9 years. I'll say this. I have learned some things about the hobby reading books and watching a few videos here and there but I have learned more in the last year on this forum than I have in the last ten years of reading and watching. You picked a good forum. There are others but this ones just a-ok. Always good to see new faces on here and again welcome back......

A Big hardy Welcome ToYyou Justin!! You are definitely in the right spot as the folks here are awesome, amazing and full of incredible skills and techniques that they are happy to share with you. I am also a History major. Got my degree at Utah State with an emphasis on early American West namely prehistoric Indians and early exploration. But, my main interest has always been military history. Just as yourself I was away from modeling nye on 30 yrs and got back into it with a vigor 4 years ago. And like you my main interest is 1/48 aircraft with a healthy dose of armor and ships. I recommend you check out some of the group builds and join in one. Great way to enhance your experience here. Looking forward to seeing you builds.
