Welcome! My preference is the Badger 105 as a good basic machine. I have owned and did not like the Testor's Aztek. It has a design flaw which is the needle return coil spring in in the paint path which makes cleaning difficult.

You are in the current golden age of plastic. Not only can you find a kit of just about everything if you look hard enough, but we now have the www and it sure makes looking easier, purchasing easier, and research, well there's no comparison.

The only real downside I see from the "good old days" is that prices are way up, like for everything else. But really good deals can be found, and for old kits eBay is hard to beat.

Yes, do get involved posting your stuff.

As to ABs, I'm a dedicated fan of the Badger "Anthem." It's relatively inexpensive, easy to set up and use, easy to clean, and has done pretty much everything I've ever tried to do with it. I've tried a number of brands and models over the years, and it's the least "fussy" of any airbrush I've used.

One of our forum members, a gent by the name of Don Wheeler, has an excellent site to visit if you're looking into getting any airbrush. Lots of good reviews (with pictures of what the brushes will actually do) and great tips for airbrushing in general. I think you'll find it helpful:

Welcome!  It truely is a golden age for modlebuilders. With all the after market parts and photo etch stuff its getting to the point that you dont have to scratchbuild anything anymore! But I still try. Do you know how much Squadren green putty it takes to sculpt a 1/1 scale Greyhound bus?  About 26 tons!

P.S. Tim   kids grow up so fast these days......    get him an electric razor!

Hiya.  I have the iwata eclipse and am happy with it.  I think the two biggest things are how it feels to you and the ability to take it somewhere local if you have a problem.  I may be the only one on this forum that left off a part after cleaning... But its nice to be able to take it to a shop instead of having to mail it off.  The iwata felt natural to me as i have to sketch a lot at work, my buddy got the the badger (150 i think) and he is a mechanic.  Get a feel before you buy
