Hello from Alabama

Like a lot of folks it seems I've rediscovered model building after leaving off many years ago (I stopped sometime around the age of 13). In my late teens through early thirties I painted an enormous amount of lead figurines to go along with my weekend Advanced Dungeons and Dragons sessions. I got pretty good at it too.

So now I'm in my late forties, decided I desperately needed a hobby, so I bought, of all things, Revell's 1:96 USS Constitution. After 14 months I reached a point where I could pretend it was finished. These things I will never understand:

1. Why on earth did I start with that behemoth?

2. Why didn't I Google for information about this kit (and model building in general) while I was building it? I'm a software developer so it's not like I'm computer illiterate.

3. Why did Polly-S paints disappear? I loved those paints! (I know about Polly Scale).

I survived the Constitution and I am just about finished with Revell's Big Boy train engine and have started the B17-G. I haven't settled on any particular type of model I want to specialize in although I do love ships more than anything else.

I finally started googling and here I am. Just dropped in to say hi. Geeked

Welcome to the Forums Sandy. Welcome Sign There are lots of great guys, and gals, on here that are ready, willing, and able to help you with any problems/questions that you may have. The only thing they ask in return is that you post lots of pics of your builds. That's what keeps us happy around here. My name is Jim and I am a plasticaholic. I love the smell of plastic in the mourning. I build whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Glad to have you aboard. Pull up a seat and keep building.

Thanks all -

GAF: - I know where Homewood is; I live about an hour north of B'Ham so I may need to make an expedition to that store one of these days. I love browsing hobby shops.

I'll post some photos of the Big Boy as soon as I've got the decals on (last step yay!). Edited to say I'll post photos once I get photo posting to work for me Embarrassed

Okay I have this figured out! Above is my albatross Constitution - the background is my workstation which is currently the kitchen table until it warms up a bit.

Below is her backside -

And lastly here is why this model currently resides in the back bathroom with the door shut!

Photos of the Big Boy soon come ( in a more appropriate subforum ) - need to apply matte finish and then she'll be ready to go.
