Welcome aboard, Snowdrift, good to have you with us. Hope you enjoy your return to the hobby and the time you spend here. It's a great resource with lots of helpful and experienced folks who are willing to share ideas and techniques. I learn new stuff here all the time, and I've been building for decades now.

A suggestion for a great book-- "Scale Model Aircraft in Plastic Card," by Harry Woodman. Though first published in the 70's, the techniques and approach he embraced remains one of the best-ever guides to basic kit-fixing, detailing, and the creative use of materials, useful even if you build non-aircraft kits. Best of all, the author allowed the entire book to be accessed online through the wwimodeler.com website here.

Enjoy the hobby, ask questions if you've got 'em, and jump in and join the fun!

Greg

Welcome aboard snowdrift. Man thats a tall question. There are so many good books out there. I will say this: The books are a nice place to start but I've learned more off of this forum in the last year than I have in years of reading books. Stick around , enjoy the conversation, ask questions, comment where you can and post pics. There are some absolute good folks here. Glad to have you, Joe

Thx checkmateking02. That book looks like something I might have read when I was growing up.

Welcome to the Forum.  As for books, here's the one that got me started.  A little elderly, but still useful.

Now, if I could only remember what I did with my copy. . .

Welcome to the Forums Snowdrift. Certainly glad you have chosen to join us. You are correct in your analysis as this a great place to be to invigorate your modeling. I might suggest you check out the how to videos right here on this site. They do an excellent job of demonstrating some of the basic and more advanced skills. One book I used when I got into modeling which proved quite useful is, or was, put out by Testors titled "Model Building and Finishing Guide". It's a small spiral bound book with some great tips on basic modeling skills. I still have it and actually refer to it once in awhile. Enjoy yourself here and please do not hesitate to ask any question you need.

Welcome aboard. Feel free to ask if there's anything your not sure of and dive right in.

As for books, there are a whole range out there. But they tend to be aimed at specific subjects, such as airbrushing, or build German armour and so on. My advice would be to start basic, get a kit, glue and paints and just see how you feel about it. You can always ask the guys on here for anything specific you may come across.

HI.

I just joined. I used to build models w/ my dad decades ago. I'd like to try one again just to see if I like it enough to do more.  This looks like a great place to start!

I read the etiquette guidelines, and I think they're great. However, I feel the need to break one already: Can anyone suggest a good model-building intro book? (I full intended to do a search for this topic, but got too lazy...)

Thank you.  I appreciate what you've all done to make this website so useful.
