Welcome to the forums.

I'm in the same boat as you, though I don't build cars.  I build WWII aircraft.  I started with Revell, and only because they had a lower piece-count and didn't seem as intricate as some of the others.  No knock on Revell.  I've loved building the Revell's that I've build.  I just didn't want to build something overly complex on the first couple of builds.

On the bench:  Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build.  Yes, still.

Welcome! You picked a good time for '60's muscle as AMT is releasing a bunch of their older stuff.

TomK, welcome to the forums!  As for which manufactures to lean to or avoid?  Heck, that's part of the fun of the hobby!  You tell us what you like and don't like.  Try them all!  Some like one , some like the other.  There is no bad or good, just what you like and want to do.....so jump on in!  No matter what kits you pick, somebody here is going to know about them and be more than willing to help if needed.  Glad to have you on and I look forward to your builds!

Welcome aboard.

As CMK says, its difficult to give advice on certain companies. Some can generally be more relied upon than others, but all have their bad and good kits. It would also depend on price and how much detail you wanted. Best advice is to take it kit by kit.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Welcome to the Forum, Tom.

There probably aren't any to avoid, or to lean toward.  Each maker has their sheep and their goats.  If you inquire about specific kits, likely someone here has built it--or knows something about it.

Good luck.

Returning to modeling after 30 year break

I'm finally getting life settled down a bit and I'm starting to get ready to get back into some modeling. The last thing I built was probably in 1982 or so.

I'd like to get more into the artistic and detailing side of modeling that I never had the time or inclination for back then. As I start setting up my workspace and planning my first project I'm amazed at the number of different model manufacturers. Trying to pick a sigle project is going to be tough, but I wanted to see if i could get a little advice so I could get a good start.

I'm looking at either military aircraft (prefer WWII warbirds) or car (1960's Muscle) models to start with. I've never done any serious airbrushing, but I am planning on getting at least an entry level brush when it's needed. The first build or two will probably focus on the construction - gap filling, smoothing, interior detailing and the rest of the basics.

So which manufactures should I lean towards and (probably more importantly) which ones should I avoid?

If there's any sites or articles that would help please pass them on.

Thank for the help
