I've tinkered with model building over the years, with varying success, but never attempted a ship model before. I'm a long-time fan of Patrick O'Brian and CS Forrester, and--at least for me--it's impossible to read these tales without becoming fascinated by the inner workings and boundless complexity/ingenuity of sailing ships.
The urge to tackle a model ship has been growing for a few years now, and I decided a prudent course would be to start with something simple and modest, to test both my skill AND my will.
I selected Revell's USS Constitution 1:196 scale for a few reasons:
* It's inexpensive
* There are extensive build logs of its larger, 1:96 scale, cousin, from which I could crib ideas for added detail
* The scale of many of the parts would test my ability/patience for painting (which has frequently been where my patience would run out in the past)
I started work back in March, and I'm proud to say I'm almost at the finish line. I'm also quite proud of some of the work I've done, and will post a build log in the next week or so.
I'm looking forward to showing you what I've come up with. Thanks!
