Hi everyone, I am a relative newbie to model-building, having started about 15 months ago, at the tender young age of 60. Semi-retirement is what got me started on model-building.
I've been a keen collector of 1/43 diecast cars and bikes for some years, but the economic slowdown of semi-retirement means that I can't afford to keep on buying nicely made metal and resin models.
Oddly enough, I haven't buit a single model car yet, but I have built a number of planes and ships so far. The first efforts were very rough indeed, I'm slowly improving and having a lot of fun. I enjoy diorama-making, both traditional 3-D dioramas and my own version, done in Photoshop using built models and a variety of Photos.
My tastes in planes and ships are almost entirely civilian (even though I've been a wargamer since 1980).
Rather than show you all my beginner efforts, here's some pix of the last few things I've built...
Northrop XB35 'Flying Wing' (1/200 kit by cybermodel.com)... and here it is in a Photoshopped diorama of it flying over Boulder Dam...
And here's a diorama of a Japanese oil tanker, the 'Shiriya' in port (1:700 scale Pit Road model kit)
And finally, a more traditional diorama of a Russian Spy Fishing trawler (an old Revell kit)
Anyway, that's me. I'll post something else showing some of my first year of building kits when I get my Image Shack library in order.
This looks like a busy, lively, friendly site, and I hope to contribute something a bit different in coming months.
